Subject: [TNCAMPBE-L] Chitwoods in TN [Campbell and Scott Counties]

Hi Guys--I am posting both to the Chitwood list and theCampbell and
Scott Counties, TN lists; hope someone can answer my question. A few
years ago a nice man [no relative] sent me some photos of gravestones of
Chitwoods who were buried in the "Chitwood Cemetery" in Scott County,
TN. At the time I looked at them but the stones were old and not easy
to read beyond the names. Now that I have a scanner I got them out to
scan them in and discovered that they are not my 3dggrandfather
Pleasant Chitwood [and his wife] as I thought but, instead are their son
Pleasant Chitwood who was a brother of my gggrandfather Hugh Chitwood.

I was putting the info in my database today and discovered that the
"Descendants of Matthias Chitwood" lists the Pleasant Chitwood for whom
I have the gravestone photo as being buried in the "Jellico Creek"
family cemetery, Scott County, TN.

My Pleasant Chitwood is listed as buried in the Perkins Cemetery, Scott
County, TN in the "Descendants..." book. I can find no Perkins
Cemetery listed among the Scott County Cemeteries at the usgenweb.org
site for Scott County nor at the USGS site. I found the following at
the Campbell County site:

155.PERKINS CEMETERY - On Jim Creek in Chaska at Harley Reese's farm
(MAP)
156.PERKINS CEMETERY - Along the Clearfork River at High Cliff Bridge
157.PERKINS CEMETERY - Road 197 to Newcomb on Hoot Owl Hollow Rd. (MAP)

Unfortunately these cemeteries have not been indexed.

To compound my confusion--at the Scott County usgenweb site the USGS
lists TWO Chitwood Cemeteries [again, unfortunately the interrees have
not been listed] - they are not all that far apart. The locations are:

363259N 0842642W
363301N 0842645W

The first one can be viewed on the USGS map; I got an error message on
the second. I do not know if there is an error in reporting two or if
it was just a bad day for me to search.

There is a comment at the Scott site that the USGS cemetery names are
not necessarily correct.

The Chitwoods lived around Winfield [formerly Chitwood] and you can find
them listed in both counties because of the reorganization of the
counties at various times.

Can anyone help? I would really appreciate it.
