Coalfield resident
WANDA FAYE MOORE, 58, of Coalfield, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born July 3, 1943, in Coalfield, she was the daughter of Arvena A. Bedford of
Coalfield and William Thomas Bedford, who is deceased.
Mrs. Moore had been a lifelong resident of Coalfield. She had been employed
by Kyser-Roth Industries for 22 years, by Red Kap Industries for six years,
and Methodist Medical Center for four years.
She was the widow of the Rev. William L. "W.L." Moore.
She was a member of Elverton Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Moore is survived by three sons, William
Darrell Moore and his wife, Linda, and Michael Jason Moore and his wife,
Nikki, all of Coalfield, and James Dean Moore and his wife, Tena, of Clinton;
two daughters, Thelma Rose Seiber and her husband, Hubert, of Wartburg, and
Lois Ann Campbell and her husband, Charles, of Harriman; 10 grandchildren,
Jeff, Megan, Chris, Dustin, Charles, Jennifer, Adam, Daniel, LeiAnn and
Brandon; and two great-grandsons, Guage and Wesley.
She is also survived by a brother, Tommy Bedford and his wife, Robin, of
Coalfield; two sisters, Edna Gallaher and her husband, Ronald, of Oliver
Springs, and Joyce Abshire and her husband, Jesse, of Coalfield; two
sisters-in-law, Faye Elmore and her husband, Lester, of Petros, and Patsy
Gouge and her husband, Jim, of Coafield; and two brothers-in-law, Sammy Joe
Moore of Oliver Springs and Alonzo Moore and his wife, Violet, of Petros.
Steve and Judy Childress of Wartburg, Shirley Byrge of Oliver Springs and
Rhonda Felthaus of Harriman were considered special friends. Mary Ellen Crowe
and Maxine Crowe, both of Coalfield, were considered very special friends.
In addition to her husband and her father, Mrs. Moore was preceded in death
by two other brothers, Carl F. Bedford and William Richard Bedford.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Roger Buck, the Rev. Rue
Eskridge and the Rev. Grover Adkins officiating.
Burial will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Coalfield.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Feb. 4, at the funeral
home.
Mother of Bobbie M. Fields
GRACE WARMAN MILLER, 92, of Hixson, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at her home.
She was born in McCreary County, Ky., on Jan. 20, 1910, the daughter of Jane
Gholdson and Henry Warman.
Mrs. Miller was retired from the United States Postal Service. She was last
postmistress at Greenwood, Ky. The Postal Service closed the facility upon
her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Miller; two daughters, Bobbie M.
Fields and her husband, Theodore, of Oak Ridge, and Uma Ann Clark and her
husband, Oral, of Hixson; two grandsons, Richard E. Fields and his wife,
Ginger Cunningham, of Knoxville, and Daniel Clark and his wife, Donna McAbee,
of Hixson; and four granddaughters, Ramona Clark Sumner, Corajane Fields and
her husband, Robert W. Melton, of Travelers Rest, S.C., Grace-Ann Fields and
her husband, James H. Cannon, of Maryville, and Mary Ellen Fields and her
husband, James T. Dover, of Simpsonville, S.C.
Mrs. Miller is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Thera Sumner, Micah
Sumner and Isaac Sumner, all of Chattanooga, Richard Clark and Grant Clark,
both of Hixson, Benjamin Edward Fields and Amos Gray Fields, all of
Knoxville, Kelly Ann Melton of Travelers Rest and Teresa Fay Dover and Julia
Kay Dover, both of Simpsonville; two sisters, Evelyn Sumner of Louisville,
Ky., and Elizabeth Worley of Greenwood; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.
5, in the chapel of Williamson and Sons Funeral Home, 8852 Dayton Boulevard
in Soddy-Daisy, with the Rev. James Henley officiating.
Burial will be at Chattanooga Memorial Gardens in Red Bank.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Adventa

Wheat community native
OPAL VANN, 69, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Windwood
Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton.
Born May 15, 1932, in the Wheat community of Roane County, she was the
daughter of Theodore and Ester Coker, who are deceased. Mrs. Vann had lived
in Anderson, Ind., for several years, but had lived most of her life in
Oliver Springs.
She is survived by three sons, Scott Vann and his wife, Karen, of Oliver
Springs, Dennis Cole and his wife, Janie, of Muncie, Ind., and Roy Thomas
Vann Jr. of Crawfordville, Ind.; three daughters, Mary Ann Clements and her
husband, Erick, of Ingalls, Ind., Darlene Reach of California and Karen Ogden
and her husband, Gary, of Pendleton, Ind.; three sisters, Frances Coker and
Wanda Duncan, both of Oliver Springs, and Geraldine Harness of Anderson,
Ind.; and by 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and
nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Don Daugherty officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the
Dyllis Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Retired Y-12 chemist
WAYNE "Tony" KIRKSEY, 85, of Knoxville, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at St.
Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville.
Mr. Kirksey was the last surviving son of 11 children of William and Callie
Kirksey. He was a graduate of Bradley County High School and of Tennessee
Wesleyan College. Through his sports achievements, he was inducted into the
Bradley County Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Kirksey was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from
Union Carbide Nuclear Division as a chemist at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
He attended First Baptist Church of Clinton.
Mr. Kirksey is survived by his wife, Jane Kirksey; two sons, Bill Kirksey and
his wife, Jane, of Gaithersburg, Md., and Ron Kirksey and his wife, Susan, of
Stow, Ohio; three grandchildren, Scott Kirksey, Kate Kirksey and Jennifer K.
Smith and her husband, Todd; and several nieces and nephews, including a
niece he considered special, Kaye Doty of Farragut.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at First Baptist
Church in Clinton with the Rev. Paul Frick officiating.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to St.
Mary's Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938; or
to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church, 222 N. Main Street, Clinton, TN
37716.
The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service
Wednesday.

Lake City resident
DALLAS MASSENGILL, 94, of Lake City, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Lake
City Health Care Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Foust and her husband, Theodore, of
Lake City; her stepson, Leonard Massengill and his wife, Ruth, of Columbus,
Ohio; her stepdaughter, Margie Byrge and her husband, Lonzy, of Oneida; and
two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 2, in the chapel of Cox-Martin Funeral
Home in Lake City with the Rev. David Hutson officiating.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday, Feb. 3, at Corinth Missionary
Baptist Church Cemetery in Smoky Junction.
EVERETT RFOBERT NELSON, 78, of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at
Harriman Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is handling the arrangements, which were
