SUSIE "Louise" JOHNSON, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was born March 26, 1913, in Atlanta, Ga., the daughter of William Land
and Ruby Queen Briley Land.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a 51-year resident of Oak Ridge. She was a
member of Royce Baptist Church and of Chapter 390 of the Order of the Eastern
Star.
Her family said she enjoyed many interests over the years including sewing,
ceramics and browsing the flea markets. In later years, she enjoyed traveling
and working in her flower garden.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roy Joseph Johnson; two sons,
Johnny Mack Johnson and his wife, Janet, of Sweetwater, and Kenneth Hershey
Johnson and his wife, Shirley, of Clinton; two brothers, Tyrus Cobb Land of
Summerville, Ga., and Dixie Land of Detroit, Mich.; five grandchildren,
Brenda Johnson and Johnny James Johnson and his wife, Olivia, all of Kilgore,
Texas, Kenneth Ray Johnson and his wife, Allison, of Clinton, Steve Ken
Johnson and his wife, Kelly, of Karns, and Jessica Louise Johnson of
Sweetwater; and eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a daughter,
Marsha Ann Johnson, who died in 1965.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Kenneth Stubbs officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

FRED ARCHIE MOORE, 53, of Oliver Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Roane County and lived in Oliver Springs all his
life. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
Mr. Moore worked in landscaping before he became disabled.
He attended Kellytown Church of God of Prophecy.
Mr. Moore is survived by his parents, John and Elizabeth Moore of Oliver
Springs; his children, Patricia England and Roger Moore, both of Crossville,
Amy Marie Moore of Cookeville and Nathan Moore of Oak Ridge; and two
grandchildren, Cody England and Whitney England.
Mr. Moore is also survived by a brother, Richard Moore and his wife, Rosario,
of Lancing; four sisters, Reecie Jane Wilde and her husband, Stephen, and
Margaret Luttrell and her husband, John, all of Knoxville, Marettia Leopper
and her husband, Louis, of Oliver Springs and Debby Branham and her husband,
Gary, of Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
Kimberly Hembree of Oak Ridge was his fiancée.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Jan. 21, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. The Rev. Roy Massengale and the Rev. David
Morgan will officiate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Oliver
Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Calvary Baptist member
S. BASIL KITE, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at NHC
HealthCare of Oak Ridge.
Born Feb. 2, 1921, in Campbell County, he was the son of Robert Guy and Zola
Prater Kite.
Mr. Kite was retired from the Oak Ridge Country Club. He was a member of
Calvary Baptist Church.
He was also a member of the Oak Ridge Country Club, and he enjoyed golfing,
fishing, boating and gardening.
He is survived by his brother, John Kite and his wife, Debra, of Palacios,
Texas; three sisters, Anna Mae Medlin of Oak Ridge, Betty Ziemke of
Huntsville, Ala., and Josephine Roth and her husband, Dr. Larry Roth, of
Stillwater, Okla.; and by 11 nieces and nephews, 15 grandnieces and
grandnephews, and four great-grandnieces.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kite was preceded in death by another
brother, Cecil Kite, and another sister, Cordia Sweat.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the chapel of Martin
Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Lawson officiating.
Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway,
Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Retired from Y-12 Plant
JOHN WILLIAM STROHECKER, 83, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Jan. 22, 1919, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of Clair Esterline
Strohecker and Florence Wilkinson Strohecker. He came to Oak Ridge in 1944
from Bethlehem, Pa., where he grew up.
Mr. Strohecker was retired from Union Carbide Nuclear Division as an employee
at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. His hobbies included
genealogy and growing wildflowers.
Mr. Strohecker is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances "Betty" Bond
Strohecker; two sons, John Bradley Strohecker and his wife, Karen, of
Woodbridge, Va., and James Stuart Strohecker and his wife, Nancy, of Los
Angeles, Calif.; his daughter, Karen Skellie and her husband, Bert, of
Decatur, Ga.; his brother, James Robert Strohecker and his wife, Marilyn, of
Annapolis, Md.; two sisters, Betty de Jong and her husband, Henry, of
Bradenton, Fla., and Jean Metzger and her husband, John, of Vero Beach, Fla.;
three grandchildren, Jason William Strohecker of Washington, D.C., Brian
William Skellie of Decatur, Ga., and Mark Albert Skellie of Brooklyn, N.Y.
A memorial service was to be held at 3 this afternoon, Jan. 21, at First
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Cantrell, the Rev. Steve Martin
and the Rev. Bill Mooney officiating.
Burial was to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to First
United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 4669, Oak Ridge, TN 37831.
The family was to receive friends at the church from 2 to 3 this afternoon.
Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements.

Indian Bluff Baptist member
DARCUS MAE GOANS, 90, of the Laurel Grove community of Anderson County, died
Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 26, 1911, in Anderson County, the daughter of Mose and
Haley Brown Braden.
Mrs. Goans was the oldest member of Indian Bluff Missionary Baptist Church in
Laurel Grove and had remained active in the church until her recent illness.
She was the widow of Dan Goans.
She enjoyed crafts and raising flowers of all kinds. Her family described her
as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
great-great-grandmother.
Mrs. Goans is survived by her son, Audry Goans and his wife Carolyn, of
Briceville; two daughters, Lillian Hooks and her husband, James, and Imogene
Winchester and her husband, Harry, all of Briceville; a brother, Isaac Braden
of Briceville; a sister, Rosa Caughron of Maryville; two sisters-in-law,
Dorothy Goans and Stella Braden; and a niece she considered special, Gertrude
Singleton.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Debbie Harness and her husband,
Don, Pam Foust and her husband, Chuck, Danny Winchester and his wife, Nancy,
and Michelle Belcher and her husband, Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Amy
Gill and her husband, Jeremy, Abby Tackett and her husband, Brian, Adam Foust
and his wife, Melissa, Nick Harness and Andy Harness; and three
great-great-grandchildren, Emily Tackett and her husband, Gerrod, Caitlyn
Gill and Travis Foust.
Virgil Green is a special friend of the family.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Goans was preceded in death
by four brothers, Lige Braden, Bill Braden, Robert Braden and James Braden,
and three sisters, Lizzie Braden Ward, Maude Braden Hooks and Lilly Braden
Davis.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Jan. 21, in the chapel of Cox-Martin
Funeral Home in Lake City with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Indian
Bluff Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mother of Paul Whitmire
GEORGIA HAMMEL WHITMIRE, 83, a resident of NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge, died
at 7:18 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, after a short illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1918, in Circleville, Ohio, she was the daughter of Bessie M.
Kuhen Hammel and Allen F. Hammel.
Mrs. Whitmire was the widow of Paul T. Whitmire, whom she married on May 15,
1943, in Columbus, Ohio. The couple had been married for more than 56 years
at the time of his death on July 5, 1999.
She was an active member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in
Barberton, Ohio, and also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her family
described her as a loving mother.
Mrs. Whitmire is survived by three sons, Paul Whitmire and his wife, Nancy,
of Oak Ridge, Steve Whitmire and his wife, Debra, and Gregg Whitmire and his
wife, Lou Ann; and by seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held Tuesday evening, Jan. 22, at
Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home in Barberton.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday morning, Jan. 23, at
Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron, Ohio.
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is handling the local arrangements.

CARLOIS JEAN MOORE, 63, of Oak Ridge, died this morning, Jan. 21, 2002, at
her home.
Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements, which were incomplete this
morning.
