Kingston resident
GEORGE HYATT, 68, of Kingston, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at the Roane
Medical Center in Harriman. His health had declined following an injury he
sustained on May 22, 2001.
Born Jan. 8, 1934, in Fayette County, W.Va., he was the son of Bill and Alora
Hyatt, both now deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and
served in the 187th Airborne division.
Mr. Hyatt retired six years ago as the Grand Lodge Union representative of
IAM.
He was a member of the Eagles Club of Midtown and had held several offices.
He enjoyed fishing, his family said.
Mr. Hyatt is survived by his wife, Linda Hyatt; three sons, Don Hyatt and his
wife Shelia, of Sparta, Scott Lowe and his wife, Sherri, of Harriman, and
Kenneth Hyatt of Florida; his sister, Georgia Bailey and her husband,
Ballard, of Kingston; eight grandchildren, Leslie Hyatt Mahan and her husband
Mike, J.D. Hyatt, Jeromey Hyatt, Kristen Hyatt, Jennifer Hyatt, Shane Seay,
Tiffany Lowe and Brittany Alcorn; and one great-grandchild, Andre Blake
Hyatt.
He is also survived by his in-laws, Roger and Betty Lawson, Pearl Blevins,
Paul and Barbara Daugherty, J.D. and Doris Daugherty, Glen and Evelyn
Daugherty, Louie and Gail Daugherty and David and Celestia Daugherty; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by another son, William
Scott, and seven brothers and three other sisters.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Donald Daugherty officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park. Members of the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard will
conduct full military rites.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Batley Baptist member
CARL MCKAMEY, 76, of Clinton, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at Briarcliff
Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.
He was born March 21, 1925, in Lee County, Va., the son of Minnie Freels and
Fred McKamey, who are deceased. He had lived in this area since the age of
10, his family said.
Mr. McKamey was a member of Batley Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Aileen McKamey; two sons, Floyd McKamey of Oak
Ridge and James Leland McKamey and his wife, Juanita McKamey, of Clinton; two
daughters, Polly Sue Knight and her husband, Lee Dale Knight, of Powell, and
Peggy Sue Brown and her husband, Judd Brown, of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Ben
Freels of Baltimore, Md., and Raymond England of Clinton; and eight
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McKamey was preceded in death by a brother,
Claude McKamey, and a sister, Virginia Smith.
The funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 13, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in
Oliver Springs with the Rev. Kenneth Seiber and the Rev. Bill Dawson
officiating.
Burial followed at Smith Cemetery in the Batley community.
Poplar Creek Baptist member
EDNA MAE BRADEN, 87, of the Dutch Valley community of Anderson County, died
Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Oct. 25, 1914, in Brookville, Ind., she was the daughter of James and
Pearl Baxter. She had lived in Tennessee since early childhood.
Mrs. Braden was a member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Marlow.
She was the widow of Houston Braden.
She is survived by her son, James L. "J.L." Braden of Dutch Valley; two
daughters, Joyce Kennedy and her husband Elmer, and Shirley Brock and her
husband Henry, all of Dutch Valley; two sisters, Virgie Gilreath of
Andersonville and Dorothy Taylor of Greenville, Ohio; and 23 grandchildren
and 33 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Braden was preceded in death
by five children, Floyd Braden, Ralph Braden, Gene Braden, Wiley "Buck"
Braden and Clyde Braden; four brothers, Albert Baxter, Bea Baxter, Lawrence
Baxter and Johnny Baxter; and a sister, Rosie Jinks.
The funeral was to be held at 2 this afternoon, Jan. 14, at Poplar Creek
Baptist Church with the Rev. Butch Mullins officiating.
Burial was to follow at Sulfur Springs Cemetery in Clinton.
Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs handled the arrangements.
Grandson of Mimi Kaine
MATTHEW EDWARD KAINE, 17 months, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Fairfax
County Hospital in Fairfax, Va.
Matthew was the son of James Wallace and Amy Hensley Kaine of Fairfax.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, John Daniel Farmer
of Fairfax; his grandparents, Mimi Kaine of Oak Ridge, Harvey and Louise
Hensley of Manchester, Ky., and Wally and Marta Kaine of Leesburg, Va.; and
his great-grandparents, Isham and Billie Hensley and Pauline Massey, all of
Manchester, Ky., and Helen H. Kaine of Williston, N.Y.
The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 12, in the chapel at Britton Funeral Home
with David Warden and the Rev. Jack Kiefer officiating. Burial followed at
the B.F. White Cemetery in Manchester.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Fisher House, 1401 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852.
Former Oak Ridge resident
LOUISE WALTER MCCLURKIN, 89, of Roswell, Ga., formerly of Oak Ridge, died
Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, in Roswell.
He had recently moved to Roswell.
Mr. McClurkin was trained as a printer and, prior to his retirement in 1975,
he worked for the Atlanta Constitution as a linotype operator. He was active
in an Atlanta branch of the International Typographical Union.
He was a scratch golfer and had won a number of tournaments in Atlanta as a
young man, his family said. He continued to play golf until he was in his
80s.
Mr. McClurkin was born in Anniston, Ala. His great-great-grandparents on both
sides of the family were early settlers of Calhoun County who arrived in
Alabama from South Carolina about 1830. He was a descendant of Gen. John
Sevier, the first governor of Tennessee, and Sarah Hawkins Sevier.
He and his wife, Virginia Beaver McClurkin, who is now deceased, traveled
widely in Europe and Asia. He was a member of the High Museum of Art in
Atlanta and the Country Club of Roswell.
Mr. McClurkin is survived by his daughter, Virginia McClurkin Jones and her
husband, Charles Miller Jones Jr., of Oak Ridge; and his son, David K.
McClurkin and his wife, Janet Jacob McClurkin, of Cleveland, Ohio.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heidi McClurkin of Somerville,
Mass., Gretchen McClurkin Farrell and her husband, Michael, of Cleveland,
Ohio, Charles Miller Jones III and his wife, Holly Scarlett, of Friendsville,
Grace Jones Phillips and her husband Kevin Phillips, of Knoxville, and James
McClurkin of Somerville; and his great-grandchildren, Morgan and Pierce
Scarlett-Jones and Ethan Farrell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Oxford
Memorial Gardens in Oxford, Ala.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
High Museum of Art, 1280 Peachtree St. N.E., Atlanta, GA 30309.
LEONARD CRUMP, 88, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
