GROVER CECIL GOANS, 88, of Oliver Springs, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at
Royal Care of Harriman.
Mr. Goans was born Dec. 27, 1912, in Saxton, Ky., the son of Grover
Cleaveland Goans and Cora Alice Alden Goans.
He was a member of Beech Park Baptist Church in Oliver Springs and he was a
member of Omega Masonic Lodge No. 536, also in Oliver Springs.
Mr. Goans is survived by two daughters, Donna Windham and her husband, Eddie,
of Oakdale, and Rebecca Bryson Duncan of South Carolina; his grandchildren,
Angela and Jake May of Fort Rucker, Ala., Jamie Windham of Oakdale, Nicki and
Johnny Paletta of Hardyville, S.C., and Jonathan Bryson of Harriman; four
great-grandchildren, Eli May, Amanda Paletta, Joseph Paletta and Jay Paletta;
and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by a former son-in-law, Johnny Bryson.
Janie Russell and Hobert Lewis were considered special friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Goans was preceded in death by his wife, Mary
Juanita Clowers Goans; five sisters, Georgia Purdy, Opal Wallen, Marie
Webster, Irene Wright and Beulah Seiler; one brother, Woodrow Goans; and a
son-in-law, Robert "Bear" Duncan.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the chapel of Oliver
Springs Mortuary with the Rev. J.B. Potter and the Rev. Kerry Ruppe
officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Oliver
Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home

SADIE M. FUTREL, 91, of Coalfield, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at NHC
HealthCare of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Futrel was born Dec. 31, 1909, in Morgan County, the daughter of John
and Ona Jackson Morrison.
She was a lifelong resident of Coalfield and was a member of Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church.
She was the widow of James Conrad Futrel.
Mrs. Futrel is survived by two daughters, Susie E. Adcock Whitaker and her
husband, Thomas L. Whitaker, of Knoxville and JoAnn Gregg and her husband,
Willie Gregg, of Mosheim; one son, Cedrick Jackson of Coalfield; four
grandchildren, James Warren Adcock, Rick Adcock, Vicki Francis and Sonya
Gregg; and six great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by a brother, Dave Morrison of Clinton; and two sisters,
Lettie Fox of Knoxville and Ollie Mayes of Strawberry Plains.
Dorothy Moore and Marie Reynolds were considered special friends.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Mack Smith and the Rev. Floyd
Powell officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Estes
Cemetery of Coalfield.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

CLAUDE CAMPBELL of Oliver Springs died this morning, Oct. 17, 2001, in West
Virginia.
Oliver Springs Mortuary is handling the arrangements, which were incomplete
this morning.
