ALVIN REYNOLDS, 71, of Harriman, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Sept.
23, 2001, in Huntsville, Ala.
Born Feb.10, 1930, in Norris, he was the son of Joe and Lena Mae Cox
Reynolds, who are now deceased. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean
War.
Mr. Reynolds was retired from Lockheed Martin Energy Systems as a machinist
at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
He attended the United Methodist Church of Kingston. His family said he loved
to read and was an avid sports fan, especially of University of Tennessee
teams.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Ann Meadows Reynolds;
two sons, Larry Reynolds of Marietta, Ga., and Terry Reynolds and his wife,
Joan, of Huntsville, Ala.; two grandchildren, Adela Reynolds and Alyssa
Reynolds, both of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, June McCauley and her
husband, Tom, of Harriman and Rose Richards of Cummings, Ga.; two brothers,
Johnny Reynolds of Cummings and Billy Joe Reynolds and his wife, Pam, of
Oliver Springs; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Reynolds of Harriman; and by several
nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by another brother,
Herbert Reynolds.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Reed Shell officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Norris
Memorial Gardens in Norris.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
American Heart Association, Anderson County Unit, P.O. Box 6014, Oak Ridge,
TN 37831; or to the Kingston United Methodist Church, 212 W. Church St.,
Kingston, TN 37763.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

WILMA GIBSON, 88, of Clinton, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Stone and her husband, O.D. Stone, and their children came to live in
Oak Ridge in early 1944. They moved to Clinton in 1960.
In the early years of Oak Ridge, Mrs. Stone was employed at both the Oak
Ridge Y-12 and K-25 plants and later worked for Wender's Department Store,
Royal Jewelers and Zale Royal Jewelers in Oak Ridge. She retired from Zale
Royal Jewelers in 1986 after 25 years of service. Her family said she often
spoke of how she enjoyed the many friends and acquaintances she made during
her long career.
She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Clinton, and she loved and
enjoyed her many wonderful and caring friends there in her neighborhood,
according to her family, who described her as a devoted, loving and caring
mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
Mrs. Stone's husband died in August 1972.
She is survived by her sons, Robert F. "Hardrock" Stone of Clinton and Ronnie
A. Stone and his wife, Ellen, of Lakeland, Fla; her daughters, Joyce Anne
Gragg and her husband, Frank, of Oak Ridge and Mary Ruth Hayworth and her
husband, Bill, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her brothers, Edward Gibson and
Barney Gibson, both of Gulston, Ky., and Wendell Gibson and his wife, Velma,
of Hamilton, Ohio.
Mrs. Stone is also survived by 10 grandchildren of which she was proud, David
Stephens of Greenville, S.C., Jeff Stephens of Fuquay­Varina, N.C., Kathy
Skelton and Teresa McQueen, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Scott Hayworth of
Boynton Beach, Fla., Cindy Grasso of Snellville, Ga., Susan Buckner of Port
St. Lucie, Fla., Robin Peterson of Lutz, Fla., Angie Stone of Wesley Chapel,
Fla., and Dana Brewer of Hartsville, S.C.; and by four step-grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mark
and Stella Gibson; a daughter-in-law, Emily Stone in July 2001; two sisters,
Zora Gibson and Virginia Blankenship Farrell; and another brother, Roy
Gibson.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Sept. 24, in the chapel of Weatherford
Mortuary with the Rev. Milton Bolton and the Rev. Mark Gallaher officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Anderson
Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Building Fund at New Salem Baptist Church, 1030 Oak Ridge Highway, Clinton,
TN 37716.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.

REBA JUANITA NEAL, 73, of Coalfield, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the home
of her daughter in Lowell, Mass.
Born March 18, 1928, in Roda, Va., she was the daughter of Joe and Pearl
Farr, who are deceased. She had lived in Coalfield since 1934.
Mrs. Neal was a retired district manager for Avon.
She was a member of Tuppertown Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.
She was the widow of Jack Neal.
Mrs. Neal is survived by her son, Jimmie Neal and his wife, Linda, of Oliver
Springs; her daughter, Linda Henderson and her husband, Bruce, of Lowell,
Mass.; four grandchildren, Lynn Hyatt, Lance Hyatt, Heather Ashley and
Jennifer Russell; one great-grandchild, Christian Hyatt; a brother, Jimmy
Farr and his wife, Wilma, of Coalfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Betty Jackson, Jonelle Gebauer, Ralph Wilson, Carol Dean Cope, Mable Russell,
Nita Patrick, Alaysia Walker and Melissa Madget, her goddaughter, were
considered special friends.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Sept. 24, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Ralph Wilson and the Rev. Willie
Aiken officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at
Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

BERYL T. "Penny" BOGDANOWICZ, 76, of 114 Venus Road, died Sunday, Sept. 23,
2001, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after an extended illness.
A former resident of the Solway community, Mrs. Bogdanowicz was a homemaker
and a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oak Ridge. Her family
described her as a loving wife and mother.
Born in Tellico Plains on June 9, 1925, she was one of eight children of
James W. and Louise Shaw Tucker, who are now deceased.
She was employed at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant during the early years of Oak
Ridge. It was there she met her future husband, Walter A. Bogdanowicz, who
according to the family held the position of superintendent of electrical
engineering at the Y-12 and Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion plants until he
retired in 1978.
The couple married on Feb. 15, 1947, at the Chapel on the Hill. Mr.
Bogdanowicz, who survives her, was a CIA agent during World War II and was
one of three people to choose the Oak Ridge site for the Manhattan Project,
the family said.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bogdanowicz is survived by two daughters,
Sister Mary Theresa Bogdanowicz and Sister Joseph Andrew Bogdanowicz, both of
the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, in Ann Arbor, Mich.;
and her son, Don Michael Bogdanowicz of Boston, Mass..
Also survived are two brothers, Ralph Tucker and his wife, Lillian, of
Dexter, Mich., and Harold Tucker and his wife, Sharyn, of Redford, Mich.;
five sisters, Grace (Mrs. Frank) Tabor of Gallipolis, Ohio, Della (Mrs.
Harrison) Raper of Oak Ridge, Ruth (Mrs. Gordon) Ramey and Fae Loveday, both
of Knoxville, and Mary (Mrs. George) Bailey of Clinton; a brother-in-law,
Chester Bogdanowicz of Philadelphia, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Ceil Klempski, Joe and Bonnie Connor, Bill and Eileen Levins, Ed and Nita
Marshall and Al and Corrine Palko were considered special friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at St.
Mary's Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m., with the
Rev. Michael Woods officiating.
Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway,
Clinton.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, 4597 Warren Road, Ann
Arbor, MI 48105; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

JOHN SEWELL, 82, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Briarcliff
Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 9, 1918, in Owensboro, Ky., he was the son of Mary Jane Brock and
Marcus Granville Sewell.
Mr. Sewell had worked for 38 years as a machine maintenance foreman at the
Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant before retiring.
His family said he had a commendation from the War Department for his
contribution to the war effort during World War II.
Mr. Sewell was an avid golfer and was a founding member of South Hills Golf
Course in Oak Ridge. He also loved University of Kentucky basketball, his
family said.
He was the widower of Vivian Lee Sewell.
Mr. Sewell is survived by three sons, John James Sewell Sr. and Marcus Alan
Sewell, both of Oak Ridge, and William Michael Sewell and his wife, Tina, of
Corbin, Ky.; and two daughters, Elisabeth Sewell Couch and her husband,
Joseph E. Couch, of Lexington, Ky., and Barbara Sewell Baker and her husband,
Larry W. Baker, of Oak Ridge.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, John James Sewell Jr., Allen
Sewell, Tracy Sewell, Anthony Sewell, Andrew J. Couch, Matthew M. Couch, Lisa
A. Fagan, Michael W. Bird, Johnathan R. Taylor, James A. Sewell, Bryan C.
Sewell, Heather Renee Sewell, Marcus I. Sewell, Melissa J. Sewell and Ryan T.
Sewell; and his great-grandchildren, James M. Sewell, Christopher Sewell,
Jalynn Kelsey Leuthke, Andrew M. Fagan, Alex L. Fagan, Cory A. Fagan, Chelsea
Couch, Bradley Couch, Beth Couch, Kayla Sewell, John Allen Sewell, Nicholas
Sewell, Melissa Sewell and Justin Sewell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at
Pineville City Cemetery in Pineville, Ky. The Rev. Steve McDonald will
officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight, Sept. 24, at Martin
Oak Ridge Funeral Home.

VIOLA "Vi" LUCKERT STEIN, 75, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at
NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge after a long battle with cancer.
The daughter of Emma Held Luckert and Frederick Luckert, she was born Oct. 9,
1926, in Edson, Kan. After graduating from Edson High School, she moved to
Colorado Springs, Colo., to live with her sister. There she worked at the
Fort Carson Army Base and with the Mountain States Telephone Co.
She married Paul E. Stein, who survives her, in Colorado Springs on Aug. 18,
1947. The couple moved to Denver where Mrs. Stein worked with the telephone
company. In 1950, they moved to Etter, Texas, where she was a supervisor with
the North Plains Telephone Co. In 1953, the Steins moved to Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Stein worked for a short time in the accounting department at the Oak
Ridge K-25 plant before devoting full time to raising her family. She was
active in a number of organizations, including the Art Center Guild, the YWCA
of Oak Ridge, the Oak Ridge Power Squadron and the women's organization of
the United Church, Chapel on the Hill.
She was an ardent duplicate bridge player, playing in the Oak Ridge Bridge
Association and in regional tournaments. Mrs. Stein also enjoyed gardening,
especially wildflowers.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stein is survived by her son, Paul E. Stein
Jr.; her daughter, Valerie Richards and her husband, Philip Richards; her
grandson, Charles Richards; and her daughter, Anne Stein and her fiancé, Jeff
MacDonald.
Mrs. Stein is also survived by eight siblings, Grace Pyles and Frieda
Roberts, both of Colorado, Ernest Luckert of Oklahoma, Frank Luckert, George
Luckert, Charles Luckert and William Luckert, all of Kansas, and Beulah
Barbosa of Brazil.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Florine
Burt and Marie Platt.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the United
Church, Chapel on the Hill.
Burial will be at the church's Memorial Garden.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
American Cancer Society, Anderson County Unit, c/o Lee Costanzo, 103 Case
Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 3730; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

JORDAN DREW WATSON, 21, of Claxton, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at East
Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville of Batten's disease. His family
said he died among family, friends and caring nurses and doctors.
Born in Oak Ridge on Dec. 5, 1979, he was the son of Dennis and Karen Lay
Watson of Claxton.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Kristin Tadlock and
her husband, Stacy, of Claxton; his grandparents, Mayford and Betty Watson of
Claxton and Iris Lay of Oak Ridge; his aunts and uncles, Connie Watson and
Glenda and Paul Schuster, all of Louisville, Ky., David and Martha Watson,
Debbie Grundy, Mark and Lecia Watson and Bryan Watson, all of Claxton, and
Suzanne Lay of Oak Ridge; and by several cousins.
Mr. Watson was preceded in death by a sister, Britt Ashley Watson; his
grandfather, Herbert A. Lay; an uncle, Dewey Grundy, and a cousin, Shelley
Massey.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 23, at Edgemoor Baptist Church
in Claxton. The Rev. Charles Fritts, the Rev. Mike Petty and the Rev. Don
Hensley officiated.
Burial followed at Riverview Cemetery.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Batten Disease Support & Research Association, 120 Humphries Drive, Suite 2,
Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.

DONALD DOWREY Jr., 81, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Dowrey was born Jan. 23, 1920, in Hamilton, Ohio, one of seven children
of Donald and Rose Cooper Dowrey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems in 1985. He had worked at Oak
Ridge National Laboratory and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant.
Mr. Dowrey was an active member of the Oak Ridge Benevolent and Protective
Order of Elks, where he organized the University of Tennessee football bus
for 25 years. He was an avid football fan and golfer.
He was also a member of the Oak Ridge Boat Club, and while working, he was a
member and had served as an officer of the Machinists Union.
Mr. Dowrey is survived by his wife of 55 years, Geri L. Dowrey; a daughter,
Donna Thomas-Krabbe of Springfield, Va.; a grandson, Daniel Thomas; a
granddaughter, Jenna Louise Thomas; and two sisters, Virginia Congers of
Portland, Ore., and Betty Gilbert of Hamilton, Ohio, and their families.
Members of the Oak Ridge BPOE will hold an Elks service at 8 p.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 25, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park with the Rev. Jack Sills officiating.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
American Diabetes Association, 6408 Papermill Road, Suite 212, Knoxville, TN
37919.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

ROBERT L. CAPPS, 38, of Oliver Springs, formerly of Knoxville, died Thursday,
Sept. 20, 2001, at his home.
Born April 3, 1963, in Knoxville, he was the son of Dorothy and Thomas
Mitchell Capps. His mother lives in Oliver Springs and his father is
deceased.
He had been employed as a butcher at Calhoun's and Chesapeake restaurants in
Knoxville.
He was a Baptist.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Capps is survived by two sons, Robert L. McCoy
and James Capps, both of Knoxville; a sister, Sonya Murphy and her husband,
Leslie, of Oliver Springs; two nephews, Christopher Murphy and Leslie Murphy;
two nieces, Dottie Ann Sweat and Cheryl Fisher; and several aunts, uncles and
cousins.
Norma Neff is considered a special family friend, and David Fall, Kenny
Presley, Gary Presley and James Long were special friends.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Teresa
Sweat and Rebecca Capps.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 22, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. The Rev. Tony Rutherford officiated.
