DONALD ADKISSON, 64, of Coalfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Adkisson was born May 16, 1937, in Petros, the son of Robert L. and
Lillie Mae Hammons Adkisson, who are deceased. He had been a lifelong
resident of Morgan County.
For 27 years, he was employed by Roane Electric Furnace.
Mr. Adkisson was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Reme Sue Adkisson; five sons, Gary Adkisson and
his wife, Vickie, of Petros, Mark Adkisson and his wife, Donnie, of Clinton,
and Randy Adkisson and his wife, Gwendolyn, Michael Adkisson and his wife,
Nancy, and Jeffrey Adkisson and his wife, Rita, all of Coalfield; one
daughter, Penny Pennington and her husband, Kevin, of Coalfield; and eight
grandchildren, Ashley Howell, Crystal Jackson, Tony Silvey, Brad Adkisson,
Nicole Adkisson, Amanda Pennington, Meagan Coty Adkisson and Dusty Vespie.
Mr. Adkisson is also survived by four brothers, Woody Adkisson and Larry
Adkisson, both of Petros, and Luther Woods and Fred Woods, both of Oliver
Springs; and two sisters, Nella Rhea "Lou" Harris of Petros and Lana Taylor
of Harriman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by another brother,
Harold Adkisson, and two other sisters, Mazie Thornton and Lida "Nick"
Wormsley.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Ronald Guthrie and the Rev. Mack
Smith officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Petros
Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

PEARL HOWARD KITRELL, 88, of Kingston, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Kittrell was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingston. Her family
described her as a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward Maurice Kittrell; one son,
Ron M. Kittrell and his wife, Lori A. Kittrell, of Oak Ridge; one sister,
Harriett H. Underwood of Sheffield, Ala.; one granddaughter, Simone K. Wright
and her husband, David, of Fort Worth, Texas; one grandson, Matthew R. Smith
of Oak Ridge; one great-grandson, Cameron A. Wright of Fort Worth; and
several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in the
chapel of Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, with the funeral beginning at 7
p.m. The Rev. Roy D. Graves and the Rev. Charles Kelley will officiate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Crab
Orchard Cemetery.

Dr. JOHN BUNYAN RIGGSBEE, 80, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at
Mariner Health of Norris.
Born Dec. 13, 1920, in Chatham County, N.C., he was the son of T.V. and
Sallie Curry Riggsbee. He was a 1939 graduate of the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill and a 1943 graduate of Vanderbilt University School
of Medicine.
Dr. Riggsbee's medical career included 30 years in the Navy Medical Corps
with active duty during World War II and the Korean War. As a civilian, he
served as director of Student Health at Georgia Institute of Technology for
16 years, as student health physician at Vanderbilt University and in medical
service at the Oak Ridge K-25 plant. In 1984, he retired from Student Health
Service at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clinton and previously had been a
deacon and teacher at Robertsville Baptist Church in Oak Ridge and First
Baptist Church in Maryville.
Dr. Riggsbee is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Seale Riggsbee;
two daughters, Nancy Massey and her husband, Vance, of Claremore, Okla., and
Susan Sallin of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Mark Riggsbee of Smyrna and Edwin
Riggsbee of Knoxville; a brother, E. Lloyd Riggsbee and his wife, Betty, of
Chapel Hill, N.C.; five grandchildren, William Southerland, Capt. David
Southerland, Michelle Tindell, Megan Thomas and Bracken Sallin; and six
great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, James
Southerland.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Charles Ballard and the
Rev. Paul Frick officiating.
Burial will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Claxton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Sept. 20, at the funeral
home.

ODEVAH COX Sr., 71, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Cox was a member of Longfield Baptist Church in Lake City. His family
described him as a dedicated Christian husband, father and grandfather.
He was a member of Coal Creek Masonic Lodge No. 492 in Lake City.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Janice Cox; two sons, Odevah Cox Jr. of
Farmington Hills, Mich., and Kevin Shipp and his wife, Sharon, of Kingsport;
three daughters, Tammy Thatcher and her husband, Karl, of Clinton, Gerry
Galinet and her husband, Greg, of Novi, Mich., and Tammy Wellman and her
husband, Larry, of The Colony, Texas; three brothers, Lawrence Cox and his
wife, Mary, and Harold Cox and his wife, Christine, all of Powell, and Arnold
Cox and his wife, Sheila, of Lake City; and a sister, Della Ward of Windsor,
Ontario, Canada.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Lea Anna Rogers, Molly Thatcher,
Grant Galinet, Emily Shipp, Jonathan Shipp, Hannah Shipp, Sarah Shipp,
Tiffany Wellman, Zachary Wellman and Kristy Wellman.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Josie Cox of
Caryville.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Longfield Baptist
Church with Harvey Sherlin and Henry Hensley officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Oak
Grove Cemetery in Lake City.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to
Longfield Baptist Church, 249 Longfield Road, Lake City, TN 37769.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

IRENE WALKER "Granny" BROWN, 87, of Clinton, formerly of Karns, died Tuesday,
Sept. 18, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Edgemoor Baptist Church in Claxton.
She was a member of the Cavet Station chapter of Daughters of the American
Revolution and a quilter with the '39ers Club.
In earlier years, Mrs. Brown had worked as a dispatcher for the former
Claxton Fire Department.
She was the widow of Daniel F. Brown Jr.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Barbara Stevens and her husband, Jim,
of Knoxville; four sons, Bob Brown of Claxton, John Brown and his wife,
Terrie, of Knoxville, Daniel Brown III and his wife, Alice, of Florida, and
David Brown and his wife, Rita, of California; 12 grandchildren, Morris
Callaway, Mary Callaway, LoAnn Price, Tamara Stevens, Daniel Brown IV,
Jennifer Nishida, Stephanie Thomas, Andy Brown, Paul Brown, Pamela Klicka,
Justen Brown and James Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Katlin Price and
Lauren Callaway.
She is also survived by a sister, Hazel Morgan of Pineville, Ky.; and many
nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death
by a brother, Gordon Walker.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Edgemoor Baptist
Church. The Rev. Terry Petty and the Rev. Charles Fritz will officiate.
Family and friends are to meet at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the A.R. Dyke
Cemetery in London, Ky., for the graveside service, which will be conducted
at 3 p.m.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Building Fund at Edgemoor Baptist Church, 330 Old Emory Road, Clinton, TN
37716.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Weaver
Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave., Knoxville.

CLYDE ALBERT "Bud" PARK, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at
Briarcliff Health Care Center.
Born May 24, 1921, in Sunbury, Ohio, he was the son of Marion and Lucy I.
Ufferman Park.
Mr. Park was a sergeant first class with the U.S. Army and served during
World War II and the Korean War. He received several commendations, including
the American Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star (Combat Infantryman), the Good
Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three
Bronze Service Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Service
Medal with one Bronze Star, the Army of Occupation Medal (with Japan clasp),
the Combat Infantryman Badge (second award), the United Nations Service Medal
and the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. Park also served with the Ohio
National Guard.
He is survived by his son, Harlan Park and his wife, Marie, of Oak Ridge; two
brothers, Gene Park of Ashley, Ohio, and Michael Park of Marengo, Ohio; five
sisters, Hazel Fisher and Betty Preston, both of Mount Gilead, Ohio, Joann
Singery of Grand Rapids, Mich., Jane Ulrey of Cardington, Ohio, and Linda
Morris of Bellville, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Leota Park of Oak Ridge; one
brother-in-law, Ernest Jones of Galion, Ohio; and two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren, also of Oak Ridge.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Park was preceded in death by his wife of 51
years, Ruth I. Peters Park; two sisters, Donna Jones and Mary Starkey; and
one brother, Tom Park.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Gaston
Memorial Park in Gastonia, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at McLean Funeral
Directors, 206 Broad St., Gastonia.
