I received a message last night that the Knoxvill News Sentinel had been
invaded by a worm virus. They did not post obits for the 19th, don't know if
todays include the 19th's or not.

BROWN, IRENE WALKER (GRANNY) - age 87, of Clinton, formerly of Karns, passed
away on Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at her home. She was a member of the
Edgemore Baptist Church, Cavet Station DAR, Quilter with the 39er's Club, and
a former Claxton Fire Department Dispatcher. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Daniel F. Brown, Jr., and a brother, Gordon Walker. Mrs. Brown is
survived by her daughter, Barbara Stevens and husband, Jim of Knoxville;
sons, Daniel Brown III and wife Alice of Florida, David Brown and wife Rita
of California, Bob Brown of Claxton and John Brown and wife Terrie of
Knoxville; grandchildren, Morris Callaway, Mary Callaway, LoAnn Price, Tamara
Stevens, Daniel Brown IV, Jennifer Nishida, Stephanie Thomas, Andy Brown,
Paul Brown, Pamela Klicka, Justen Brown and James Brown; great-grandchildren,
Katlin Price and Lauren Callaway; sister, Hazel Morgan of Pineville, Ky., and
many nieces and nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends
from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Weaver Funeral Home, and again after 9 a.m. on
Saturday at the Edgemore Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted
at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Edgemore Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry
Petty and Rev. Charles Fritz officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday
at the A. R. Dyke Cemetery in London, Ky. Family and friends will meet at the
cemetery at 2:45 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family request,
memorial gifts be given to the Edgemore Baptist Church Building Fund. Weaver
Funeral Home, 5815 Western Ave., 588-3868, is in charge of arrangements.

COX, ODEVAH, SR. - age 71, passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at his
home in Clinton. A member of Longfield Baptist Church, Mr. Cox was a
dedicated Christian husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Coal
Creek Masonic Lodge #492 in Lake City. Preceded in death by his parents,
Floyd and Josie Cox of Caryville, Tenn. Survivors are wife, Janice Cox of
Clinton; son Odevah Cox, Jr. of Farmington Hills, Michigan; daughter, Tammy
Thatcher and husband, Karl of Clinton; daughter, Gerry Galinet and husband,
Greg of Novi, Michigan; son, Kevin Shipp and wife, Sharon of Kingsport,
Tenn., and daughter, Tammy Wellman and husband Larry of The Colony, Texas;
grandchildren, Lea Anna Rogers, Molly Thatcher, Grant Galinet, Emily Shipp,
Jonathan Shipp, Hannah Shipp, Sarah Shipp, Tiffany Wellman, Zachary Wellman
and Kristy Wellman. Also survived by brother, Lawrence Cox and wife, Mary of
Powell; brother, Harold Cox and wife Christine of Powell; brother, Arnold Cox
and wife, Sheila of Lake City, and sister Della Ward of Windsor, Canada. The
family will receive friends at Longfield Baptist Church from 6-8 p.m. on
Friday September 21, 2001. Funeral service to follow with Harvey Sherlin and
Henry Hensley officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday,
September 22, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake City. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests memorial donations be made in memory of Mr. Cox to Longfield
Baptist Church, 249 Longfield Road, Lake City, TN 37769. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home, of Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

LYNCH, BOYD S. - age 80, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, September 16,
2001, at his residence, after a lengthy illness. He was a member of Trinity
United Methodist Church of Knoxville, a Veteran of World War II, serving in
the Army Air Corps in Italy. Mr. Lynch was retired from Oak Ridge Union
Carbide. He is preceded in death by parents, Walter and Addie Lynch; sister,
Wilma Goins; brothers, Oris and Roger Lynch. He is survived by his wife,
Mildred Carroll Lynch; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Larry Wolfe of
Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Jennifer Lynch of Michigan;
grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline Wolfe of Knoxville, and Allison Lynch of
Michigan; brothers and sisters, John Lynch of Kansas, Bob Lynch of Knoxville,
Gladys Bridges, Myrtle Ailor, Ruby Ramsey, Vivian Gordon, and Bernice
Peardon, all of Knoxville. Family and friends will meet Thursday at 10:45
a.m. at Bethal Lynch Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service with Revs.
Carl Oaks and Angela Hardy officiating. Pallbearers will be Obie Goins, Mike
Gordon, Barry Gordon, Richard Carroll, James R. Carroll, Wally White, and
Robert Vandiver. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church,

RIGGSBEE, DR. JOHN BUNYAN, - age 80, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday,
September 19, 2001 at the Mariner Health Care Center. He was a member of
Clinton First Baptist Church & had served previously as a Deacon & Teacher at
Robertsville Baptist Church of Oak Ridge & First Baptist Church of Maryville.
He was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill in 1939 & Vanderbilt School of Medicine
in 1943. His medical career included 30 years in the Navy Medical Corp. With
active duty during WWII & the Korean Conflict. His civilian medical career
included serving as Director of Student Health at Georgia Tech for 16 years,
student health physician at Vanderbilt University, medial service at the K-25
plant in Oak Ridge & retired in 1984 from UT Knoxville Student Health
Service. Preceded in death by: grandson, James Southerland. Dr. Riggsbee was
born December 13, 1920 in Chatham County, NC to T.V. & Sallie Curry Riggsbee.
Survivors: wife of 60 years, Margaret Seale Riggsbee of Clinton; children,
Nancy Massey & husband Vance of Claremore, OK, Susan Sallin of Birmingham,
AL, Mark Riggsbee of Smyrna, TN, Edwin Riggsbee of Knoxville; grandchildren,
William & Captain David Southerland, Michelle Tindell, Megan Thomas, Bracken
Sallin; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, E. Lloyd Riggsbee & wife Betty of
Chapel Hill, NC. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday,
September 20, 2001 at Halley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral
service at 10:00 a.m., Friday in the chapel with Rev. Charles Ballard & Dr.
Paul Frick officiating. Interment will follow the service at Zion Cemetery in
Clinton. Holley-Gamble Home of Clinton in charge of all arrangements.

WOODS, MRS. LUBIRDA CAMPBELL - age 81, of Knoxville, formerly of Lexington,
Miss., passed away Saturday September 15, 2001 at Hillcrest North Nursing
Home. She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Retired from Oak
Ridge Y-12 after 24 years of service. Preceded in death by husband, Willie J.
Campbell; parents, Craig and Melinda Travis; daughter, Willie Mae Campbell
Kemp; one sister; three brothers. Survivors: children, James (Darlene)
Bridges, Ural Campbell, Elizabeth Petty, Earl (Sandra) Campbell, Betty
Sadler, all of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Minnie (LaSalle) Malone, Ernestine
Junior, all of Jackson, Miss., Nannie Horton, Milwaukee, Wis.; brother, Craig
Travis, Jr., Lexington, Miss.; twenty grandchildren; twenty-three great
grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several devoted nieces and
nephews; Mt. Olive Baptist Church family and friends. Family will receive
friends 12 noon-12:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, funeral
service, 12:30 p.m. Interment Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Special thanks to
the Hillcrest North Staff. Family will be at the home of Elizabeth Pettitt,
