JAMES W. KINGSLEY, 78, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Aug. 26, 1923, in Kent, Ohio, he was the son of Robert and Anna Houser
Kingsley. He was the youngest of nine children.
His family lived in Meigs County for several years, but he returned to Ohio
during his high school years. He graduated from Shaker Heights High School in
Cleveland, Ohio. He then attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, which
later became Tennessee Technological University, in Cookeville.
World War II interrupted his college days, and Mr. Kingsley joined the United
States Army for three years. He was a military police officer and served in
several areas of the European Theater during this time.
After the war, Mr. Kingsley returned to college at Tennessee Tech. He
graduated in 1950, and that same year, he and his wife, Nan Denny Kingsley,
who survives him, were married. The couple would have celebrated their 51st
wedding anniversary on Sept. 29.
Mr. Kingsley first worked at Wilson Sporting Goods in Cookeville, but when
friends went to Oak Ridge to apply for jobs, he went along. He applied and
was hired at Union Carbide Nuclear Division. After 30 years of working as an
engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Oak Ridge K-25 site and the
Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant, he retired.
After retirement, he was asked to work as a consultant for Boeing in Oak
Ridge. He later owned and operated Kingsley Carpet Connection.
He enjoyed woodworking, reading and fishing. Mr. Kingsley was always actively
involved in church work and he was an active member of Heritage Fellowship of
Oak Ridge when his health allowed.
For many years he was a coordinator for the Lay Witness Missions traveling
over several Southeastern states to lead weekend revival missions for the
Methodist Church. His family said he loved telling about his faith to anyone
who would listen.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Kingsley is survived by four children: His
daughter, Pamela K. Seay and her husband, William R. Seay II, of Lanesville,
Ind., and three sons, James Denny Kingsley and his wife, Patricia L. Beckler,
of Fairfield, Texas, Jeffrey Edward Kingsley and his wife, Evelyn J. DeHart,
of Murfreesboro, and Eric W. Kingsley of Manchester, Ky.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, William Rives Seay III and Sara
Elizabeth Seay, both students at Purdue University, Kendra Denise Kingsley,
who attends Texas A & M University, Jillian Claire Kingsley and Weston Clark
Kingsley, both of Fairfield, Seaman Melissa Sue Kingsley, serving with the
U.S. Navy in Rota, Spain, and Christopher Roy Kingsley of Murfreesboro; and
one sister, Harriet Kingsley Michaels (Mrs. Glenn) of Rossville, Ga.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary. The Rev. James Bandy, the Rev. Walter Willis, the Rev.
Ed Denham and the Rev. Fred Garmon will officiate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Anderson
Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to a
charity of the donor's choice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

SONJA YEVETTA BRADFORD, 49, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at her
home.
She was born Nov. 12, 1951, in Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Bradford had worked as an
insurance clerk for Northwest Radiology in Indianapolis, Ind.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had been a member of the
Central Baptist Church Bowling League.
Mrs. Bradford is survived by her husband of 31 years, Roland Edward Bradford;
a son, Jason Bradford and his wife, Amy, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Dawn
Marie Vivaldi and her husband, Vinnie, of Indianapolis, and Dorene Baker and
her husband, Winthrop, of Clinton; one brother, Tommy Gene Elliott and his
wife, Christine, of Clio, Mich.; and one sister, Donna Marie Bingham and her
husband, Chalice, of Oak Ridge.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Austin Medsker of Clinton and
Giovanni Vivaldi, Kassidy Fisher and Katlin Nicole Bradford, all of
Indianapolis.
Her father, Luke Clinton Elliott, died Nov. 12, 1989, and her mother, Dora
Carnes Elliott, died Dec. 16, 2000.
The funeral will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 7, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Steve McDonald officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family asks that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
American Cancer Society, Anderson County Unit, c/o Lee Costanzo, 103 Case
Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the
mortuary.

LIONEL GRAHAM "Pick" PICKRELL, 87, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001,
at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Halls.
Born Oct. 2, 1913, in Claiborne County, he was the son of Roy and Martha
Walker Pickrell.
Mr. Pickrell was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from the
U.S. Postal Service with over 20 years of service as a rural mail carrier for
Route 1 in Clinton. His family said his love of the outdoors and interacting
with people explained his reluctance to retire until his mid-70s.
Mr. Pickrell was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton and formerly
served the church as a deacon.
In earlier years, he was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed playing
golf.
Mr. Pickrell is survived by three sons, David Pickrell and his wife, Sharon,
of Houston, Texas, and James Pickrell and Steve Pickrell and his wife,
Debbie, all of Clinton; four grandchildren, Keri Pickrell of Memphis and
Randi Pickrell, Ethan Pickrell and Christopher Pickrell, all of Clinton; two
brothers, Claude Pickrell of New Port Richey, Fla., and Roy Pickrell of
Bartlett; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Pickrell was preceded in death by his wife,
Lena Byrd Pickrell, and by a sister and a brother, Lillian Smith and Paul
Pickrell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Sunset
Cemetery in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

ELGIN "Ake" WALTER MCCARTY, 81, of Clinton, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. McCarty was born Sept. 3, 1920, in Anderson County, the son of Floyd and
Julia Elizabeth Lyke McCarty. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World
War II. During the war he served with the 4110th division from Nov. 7, 1942,
to Oct. 19, 1945, in the European Theater.
He had worked at General Electric in Evendale, Ohio, until retiring in 1977.
Mr. McCarty later worked as a sheet metal fabricator at the Oak Ridge Y-12
Plant, where he was known to his friends as "Mac." He retired from Martin
Marietta Energy Systems in 1985.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Clinton.
His family described him as a wonderful husband and a friend to all he came
in contact with.
Mr. McCarty is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eva Marie Wells McCarty;
three brothers, Kenneth E. McCarty and his wife, Sharon, of Clinton, James B.
McCarty and his wife, Marie, of Parkville, Mo., and Estel L. McCarty and his
wife, Mary, of New Orleans, La.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth McCarty of Clinton
and Estella Miller of Corryton; a brother-in-law, Earl D. Wells and his wife,
Shirley, of Claxton; and several nieces and nephews, including two nephews he
considered special, Jeffrey Wells of Clinton and Steve Wells of Hamilton,
Ohio.
Don Pearman of Montezuma, Ind., was considered a special friend.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McCarty was preceded in death by three
brothers and three sisters, Woodrow McCarty, Ivon McCarty, Garver McCarty,
Marie Hall, Thelma Lee McCarty and Clarissa Geneva Hashbarger.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Hillvale
Baptist Church Cemetery in Clinton. Mr. McCarty's nephew, the Rev. Darrell
Miller, will officiate, and members of the East Tennessee Veterans Honor
Guard will conduct full military rites.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.

STANLEY DARWIN WORTHINGTON, 47, of Windham, Ohio, died Saturday, Sept. 1,
2001, at his home, shortly before his 48th birthday.
Born Sept. 6, 1953, in Lake City, he was the son of Sam and Edna Worthington
of Oak Ridge, who are now deceased.
He enjoyed outdoor activities, sports and working on cars.
He is survived by Lisa Kokish, and their five children, Heather, Richard,
Samantha, Diana and Madalyn Worthington, all of Windham; three sisters,
Katherine Worthington and Lavada Worthington, both of Oak Ridge, and Audrey
Hedlund and her husband, Ken, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and three brothers,
Tom Worthington and his wife, Pat, of Ravenna, Ohio, Carl Worthington and his
wife, Sue, of Oak Ridge, and Roger Worthington and his wife, Helen, of
Seymour.
Mr. Worthington is also survived by five nephews, David Hedlund of Minnesota,
Thomas Worthington, James Worthington and Christopher Worthington, all of
Ohio, and Aaron Worthington of Oak Ridge; two nieces, Beverly Russell and
Sandy Russell, both of Ohio; and by several aunts and cousins.
Mr. Worthington's family said he was an organ donor and that in accordance
with his wishes, the remains were cremated.

W..JEAN "Lucy" HOSKINS, 78, of Knoxville, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at
NHC HealthCare of Farragut.

ROY PHILLIP RUSSELL, 73, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
