ERNEST HAYDEN RANDOLPH, 80, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at his
home.
Born July 27, 1921, in Morganton, Ga., he was the son of Spurgeon and Nell
Kendall Randolph. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he fought in seven
major battles in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Randolph came to Oak Ridge July 11, 1945, from Morganton. He went to work
for Union Carbide Nuclear Division as a process operator at the Oak Ridge
K-25 site and retired May 1, 1984, after 39 years of service.
Mr. Randolph was a member of Robertsville Baptist Church. He was also a
member of the Ocoee Masonic Lodge No. 201 in Morganton and a 32nd-degree
Scottish Rite Mason.
He was also an avid fisherman and a charter member of the Atomic Bass Club of
Oak Ridge. He has been the winner of numerous fishing awards and tournaments.
Mr. Randolph is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth Collins Randolph; a son,
Michael Randolph and his wife, Mary Jane, of Oak Ridge; two daughters,
Marolyn Randolph of Oak Ridge and Caroline Long and her husband, Carl, of
Jupiter, Fla.; a brother, Earl Randolph of Boston, Mass.; a sister, Violet
Nance and her husband, Clifford, of Gainesville, Ga.; six grandchildren, John
Randolph, Sissy Randolph and Amy Randolph, all of Oak Ridge, Julie Price and
Michael Price, both of San Angelo, Texas, and Kelly Parrish of Orlando, Fla.;
and several nieces and nephews.
Glenn Ely of Oak Ridge and fishing buddies and pals of Showboat Sporting
Goods, too numerous to mention, were considered special friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Randolph was preceded in death by another
daughter, Deborah Kay Randolph, who died Dec. 29, 1975.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Oak
Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Michael Prince officiating. The pallbearers
will be Glenn Ely, Devin Ely, Robert Sisson, Michael Randolph, John Randolph
and Carl Long.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Grand Lodge of Georgia F & AM Masonic Home, 811 Mulberry St., Macon, GA
31298-5099; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at
Weatherford Mortuary.
JOSEPHINE ROBINSON SLATER, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Sept. 1, 1923, she was the daughter of Sally Carter and Mose Lee.
She was a former employee of Oak Ridge Associated Universities, where she had
worked for 25 years.
Mrs. Slater enjoyed fishing, crocheting, gardening and spending time with her
family and friends.
She was the widow of Sylvester Slater.
Mrs. Slater is survived by her son, Willie Slater and his wife, Penny, of
Knoxville; her daughters, Beulah Mae Love of Alabama and Betty James, Shirley
Slater, Dorothy Slater and Frances Gray and her husband, Raymond,, all of Oak
Ridge; 26 grandchildren, including a favorite grandson, James Slater; 25
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Katie Harris, Fannie Henderson and Hugh Barnett were considered special
friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, in the chapel of
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home.
DONNA GENE CARROLL, 44, of Oliver Springs, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Carroll was born March 31, 1957, in Oliver Springs and had lived in this
area most of her life.
She is survived by her father, Sherman Carroll and his wife, Opal; two
brothers, Ronnie Carroll and Ricky Carroll and his wife, Kim; her
grandmother, Roxie Carroll; and a niece and a nephew, Allison Carroll and
Adam Carroll, all of Oliver Springs; and by other family members.
Her mother, Willie Mae Carroll, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Aug. 21, in the chapel of Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. The Rev. Charlie Marlow and the Rev. Ricky
Boring will officiate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at
Oliver Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
ROBERT E. WHITE, 77, of Clinton, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at St. Mary's
Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mr. White was retired as a supervisor with the Robertron Corp. in Detroit,
Mich.
He was the son of George and Grace Allen White, who are deceased. Mr. White
was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and he was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Worthington White; two daughters, Pamela
Youakim and her husband, Joe, of Caryville, and Jill Stiegler and her
husband, Dave, of Redford Township, Mich.; four sons, Samuel Cox of Clinton,
Raymond Cox and his wife, Elaine, of Jacksboro, Greg White and his wife,
Janice, of Pinckney, Mich., and Greg Cox and his wife, Vickie, of Murrells
Inlet, S.C.; and by 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was to be held at 1 this afternoon, Aug. 21, at Sunset
Cemetery in Clinton, with the Rev. Ernest Wright officiating and members of
the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard conducting full military rites.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements.
BROOKLYN FAITH GANN, the infant daughter of Julie Gann of Harriman, died
Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Roane Medical Center in Harriman.
In addition to her mother, Brooklyn is also survived by her maternal
grandfather, James Gann of Harriman; her sister, Kalei Richardson of
Harriman; her aunts, Susie Franklin and Mary Key, both of Oliver Springs, and
Annie English and Becky Richardson, both of Indiana; and several cousins and
other family members.
A graveside service was to be conducted at 1 this afternoon, Aug. 21, at
Elverton Cemetery in Roane County with the Rev. Keith Price officiating.
Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
GLEN F. DUFF, 92, of Lake City, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at Lake City
Health Care Center.
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is handling arrangements, which were incomplete
this morning.
