LUTHER T. AGEE Jr., 80, of Oak Ridge, a retired engineer with a long history
of church and community service, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at St. Mary's
Residential Hospice in Halls.
Mr. Agee was an active alumnus of the University of Virginia, where he
studied architecture. During World War II he served as a flight engineer with
the Army Air Corps and was stationed in the Canal Zone.
His initial employment in Oak Ridge began with the Engineering and
Construction Division, Manhattan District, of the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, and extended through the Atomic Energy Commission and its two
successor agencies, the Energy Research and Development Administration and
the Department of Energy.
Mr. Agee designed the super-secret "Katy's Kitchen," which was used to store
bomb-grade uranium just after the end of World War II. In 1950, he was called
to active military service as a first lieutenant with the 194th Engineer
Combat Battalion and received special recognition for his combat service
while stationed in Korea.
After his retirement from DOE, he was associated with the architectural and
engineering firm Adams Craft Herz Walker, where he was the principal engineer
for several major projects.
Mr. Agee was actively involved in many civic and community organizations. He
was honored by the National Foundation for the March of Dimes for 20 years of
volunteer service and served as chairman of the March of Dimes for the
Anderson County chapter during those years.
He had served as vice president of the Emory Valley Center board of
directors, as chairman of the board of Community Services for Exceptional
Citizens and as president of the Oak Ridge Jaycees and received the state
Outstanding Local President award during his term.
Mr. Agee was president of the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association board for two
years. He was an elder and active member of First United Presbyterian Church.
He served as project manager for two church renovations, one of which was
cited for an award by the city's Environmental Quality Advisory Board.
He enjoyed playing golf, and with his wife, Wordna Agee, who survives him, he
also enjoyed travel and membership in the Oak Ridge Dance Club, where he
served a term as president.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Mr. Agee is survived by two sons, Randy
Agee and his wife, Nancy, of Mechanicsville, Va., and Martin Agee and his
wife, Nancy, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; six grandchildren, Shonna Armstrong,
Stephanie Smith and Randolph Agee and his wife, Jennifer, all of
Mechanicsville, Lance Cpl. Lee Agee of the U.S. Marine Corps, and Kristin
Agee and Kaitlyn Agee, both of Palm Harbor; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at First
Presbyterian Church. Dr. John Stuhl and the Rev. Graeme Sieber will
officiate.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Organ Fund at First Presbyterian Church, 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge,
TN 37830.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the
memorial service.

DECLAN CHRISTOPHER POWER, the infant son of Tamsyn Ryan Pirtle and
Christopher Joseph Power V of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at
East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville.
Declan was born Thursday, July 19, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in
Knoxville.
In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by his grandparents,
Janice and Bob Schabot and Chris and Sharon Power, all of Oak Ridge, Jack and
Margie Pirtle of Memphis and Nancy Power and Gary Kumm of Anaheim, Calif.
A private graveside service was held.
Weatherford Mortuary handled arrangements.
PATTON LEE STEWART, 49, of Andersonville, died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at the
home of his sister, Tommie Ridenour, in Andersonville.
Born June 10, 1952, in Knoxville, he was the son of Nellie W. and Thomas
Stewart. His mother lives in Andersonville and his father is deceased.
Mr. Stewart was employed as a welder with Plasti Lines in Powell.
He owned and trained quarter horses and loved working with them in his spare
time.
Mr. Stewart was a member of Andersonville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother and his sister and her husband, Gary Ridenour, Mr.
Stewart is survived by his uncle and aunts, Clamon and Serena Stewart of
Kingsport and Dee Stewart of McMinnville; and two nephews, Jason Ridenour and
Stewart Ridenour, both of Andersonville.
In addition to his father, Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his
grandparents, James L. and Nannie Witt and Miles and Sattie Stewart.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the chapel of
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Ken Abbott officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 26, at Norris
Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to
Andersonville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 15, Andersonville, TN 37705;
or to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home.
MARY GEORGE DUNCAN, 87, of Anderson, S.C., died Sunday, July 22, 2001, in
Anderson.
Born April 4, 1914, in Westbourne, Tenn., she was the daughter of John W. and
Marie J. Galbraith. In her earlier years, she lived in Oliver Springs with
her parents. Later, she lived in Dublin, Ohio, for 25 years and for the past
year, she had lived in Anderson.
Mrs. Duncan was a member of Dublin Baptist Church.
Mrs. Duncan is survived by her son, Dr. John G. Duncan and his wife, Linda,
of Louisville, Ky.; her daughters, Mary Jo Reed and her husband, Robert, of
Dublin, and George Ann Nash and her husband, Dan, of Anderson; and 13
grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by another son, Thomas
A. Duncan Jr.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Mount
Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Oliver Springs. The Rev. Garvan Walls will
officiate.
