KIRKLAND, IDA - age 100, formerly of Westbourne and LaFollette, passed away
Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, Xenia, Ohio. She was
a member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church and Hope Council 95 of Daughters of
America. Preceded in death by husband, Rosco; son, Charles, T. R., and Bill,
and daughter, Betty. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and
Aline Kirkland of Fairborn, Ohio, Jack and Martha Kirkland of Dayton, Ohio,
and Frances of Alabama, and Ada of Clinton; 19 grandchildren; 41
great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great grandchildren. The family will
receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Cross Funeral Home with funeral
services to follow at 8 p.m., Rev. Mark D. Partin officiating. Interment 10
a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Sunrise Cemetery. Arrangements by Cross Funeral
Home.

PRICE, JAMES F. - age 78, of Lenoir City, passed away Monday morning, July
23, 2001, at his home. Jim was a member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir
City and Jim Scarbrough's Sunday School Class. A graduate of Lenoir City High
School. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army Air Corp.
in CBI (China) and Burma, India, and was awarded the DFC and Air Medals. Jim
was a member of American Legion Post #120. He was retired from Union Carbide
Y-12 in Oak Ridge, with 30 years service. Jim served as a Loudon Co.
Commissioner for 12 years. He was preceded in death by parents, George E. and
Ethel Brown Price; brothers, Neville and George Jr. Price; sister, Ruth P.
Watson. Survivors: wife of 54 years, Marjorie Hand Price; sons, Jim L. Price
and wife, Brenda of Aurora, Ill., and John E. Price of Lenoir City;
granddaughter, Olivia of Aurora, Ill.; sister, Gail Kizer of Lenoir City;
aunt, Eloise Brown of Ft. Myers, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. The
family will receive friends from 6-7:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Click Funeral
Home Chapel with funeral services to follow at 7:30 p.m. with Dr. Charles
Redmond and Rev. Dick DeMerchant officiating. Interment will follow in the
Lake View Cemetery. Jim's Sunday school class will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers: Harvey Sproul, Idus (Babe) Conner, Joe Williamson,

RANKIN, DR. SAMUEL GARDNER - age 86, husband of Irene Daniel Keller Rankin,
passed away 7:40 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2001, in his home at 77 Outer Drive,
Oak Ridge, Tenn., following a long illness. He was a retired Southern Baptist
medical missionary, having served in both China and Hong Kong. He was a
member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. He was born April 23, 1915, in
Sandy Hook, Miss., the son of Solomon Jesse and Emma Estelle Thornhill
Rankin. He received his M. D. degree from Louisiana State University School
of Medicine in 1943, and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, as
assistant surgeon on the USS Grimes, and was resident physician at Grace
Hospital, Richmond, Va., from 1946-1947. He began his medical mission work as
staff doctor at Stout Memorial Hospital, in Wuchow, China, from 1948-1949.
After the Communist takeover of China, he held a private practice in Bamberg,
S.C., until he was appointed to Hong Kong in 1955. He opened Hong Kong
Baptist Clinic in 1956, and was instrumental in the founding and growth of
Hong Kong Baptist Hospital, where he had many fruitful years until his
retirement from missionary service in 1971. He worked in medical practice
with Dr. Ridgeway in Akron, Penn., from 1971-1973, and with Dr. Thomas E.
Jenkins, in Laurens, S.C., from 1973-1986. He was married to Miriam Elizabeth
Thomas Rankin from 1946 until her death in 1985. Surviving are his beloved
wife of 15 years, Irene Daniel Keller Rankin; daughter and son-in-law,
Harriet Ann and Richard Lee White and granddaughter, Alice Elizabeth White of
Armuchee, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ellen and John Joseph
Downie, Jr., of Bogart, Ga.; grandson, John Joseph Downie III of San Diego,
Calif.; grandson, Samuel Jeremiah Downie and granddaughters, Heather
Elizabeth and Anna Kathleen Downie of Bogart, Ga.; son, Samuel Edward Rankin
of Winston-Salem, N.C. Surviving also are his sister, Annie Lou (Sue) Pope of
Mandeville, La.; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles Paul and Marie Rankin
of Columbia, Miss., and a number of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces,
nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July
24, at First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, Tenn., with Dr. Larry Dipboye
officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6-8 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at
Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley, S.C. Memorials may be made to First
Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830, or to the
American Heart Association. Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge, is in charge of
the arrangements.

SHARPE, GERTRUDE "GERTIE" COLLINS - age 95, of Andersonville, passed away
Friday, July 20, 2001 at Hillcrest North in Knoxville. She was a member of
Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by husband, Roscoe R.
Sharpe in 1988; son, Gwen E. Sharpe; brothers, Homer, Hobart and Goebol
Collins; sisters, Goldie Ridenour and Verdie Collins, and daughter-in-law,
Joyce Jones Sharpe. Gertie was born August 27, 1906, in Campbell County.
Survivors: sons, R.J. Sharpe and wife, Aileen of Knoxville, Billie Sharpe of
Andersonville, Fredric Sharpe and wife, Katrinka of South Pittsburg, Tenn.;
brother, Virgil Collins of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; sisters, Lois Stokes of
Clinton, Estella Melton of Andersonville, and Evelyn Wilson of Oliver
Springs; grandchildren, Mark Sharpe of Knoxville, Tim Sharpe of Gautier,
Miss., Tami Taylor of Knoxville, Robert Sharpe of Chattanooga, Curtis Sharpe
of South Pittsburg, Tenn., David Sharpe of Chattanooga; 12
great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside service will
be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Norris Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ken Abbott

arrangements.

STEWART, PATTON LEE - age 49, of Andersonville, passed away Sunday, July 22,
2001, at the home of his sister, Tommie. He was employed as a welder with
Plasti-Line in Powell. He was a member of Andersonville United Methodist
Church. He owned and trained quarter horses. He loved working with them in
his spare time. Preceded in death by father, Thomas Stewart; grandparents,
James L. and Nannie Witt and Miles and Sattie Stewart. Patton was born June
10, 1952, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Survivors: mother, Nellie W. Stewart of
Andersonville; sister, Tommie Ridenour and husband, Gary of Andersonville;
uncle and aunts, Uncle Clamon and Aunt Serena Stewart of Kingsport, and Aunt
Dee Stewart of McMinnville; nephews, Jason and Stewart Ridenour of
Andersonville. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25,
2001, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following
at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Ken Abbott officiating. Interment will be
held 11 a.m. Thursday at Norris Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to
Andersonville United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.

TIBBS, TIFFANY LOUISE - age 27, of West Palm Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday,
July 22, 2001, at the U. T. Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of
the Massaisha Lutheran of Knoxville, Tenn. Tiffany was an avid U. T. Vol Fan
and Mascot. Her fiancee' played football for U. T. and will graduate in
December. She was preceded in death by son, Brandon Vincent Clyburn and
grandparents, James R. Bunch and Clarence Tibbs, Sr., and aunt, Janice Bunch
Riseden. Ms. Tibbs is survived by mother and step father, Carolyn Bunch and
Louis Baccari of Palm Beach, Fla.; father and step mother, Clarence Vincent
and Carolyn Tibbs of Nashville, Tenn.; fiancee', Michael Franklin of Alcoa,
Tenn; half-brother, Tyler Tibbs of Nashville, Tenn.; half-sister, Stephanie
Tibbs of Nashville, Tenn.; grandparents, Nellie Bunch of LaFollette, and
Janette Tibbs of Brentwood, Tenn.; aunt and uncle, Moe and Dorothy Fosten of
Nashville, Tenn.; uncle and aunt, Bobby and Rose Bunch of Victorville,
Calif.; special parents, Ray and Judy Franklin of Alcoa, Tenn.; God Parents,
Ray and Arrow Elkas of Knoxville; aunts, Mary Marsee of LaFollette, Lillian
Cox of Dayton, Ohio, and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial
Service will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2001, in the Chapel of Martin
Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Green officiating. The family will receive
