KARL O. JOHNSSON, 81, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at his
home.
Mr. Johnsson was born of Danish parents on Jan. 8, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y.,
but moved to Florida at an early age. He received his bachelor's and master's
degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Florida.
After working with Pan American Airways in Miami for a year, he came to Oak
Ridge in 1943 with Tennessee Eastman Corp. Mr. Johnsson was a member of a
team of six that developed and operated the method for processing the entire
output of the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant for the bomb that was dropped on
Hiroshima, Japan.
Over the years, he worked for the Materials Chemistry Division at Y-12, the
Chemical Technology Division, the Information Division and the Reactor
Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Maintenance Division at the
Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant. At the time of his retirement in 1982, he
was with the Information Division of ORNL.
Mr. Johnsson was a charter member of the American Nuclear Society, a member
of the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical
Engineers, Sigma Xi and Tau Beta Pi and he had been a registered engineer in
Tennessee.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Johnsson; and his sons, Richard Johnsson and
his wife, Nancy Teater, of Palo Alto, Calif., and Mark Johnsson and his wife,
Carolyn, of Clearwater, Fla.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 20, at First United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Robert Cantrell officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to First
United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 4669, Oak Ridge, TN 37831.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the church.
Weatherford Mortuary is handling arrangements.

PATRICIA SUE "Pat" ELLIOTT, 65, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Oct. 5, 1935, in Hurricane, W.Va., she was the daughter of Williams
Ellis and Virginia McClung Ellis, who are deceased. She graduated from
Hurricane High School, where she was a majorette with the band.
Upon graduation she met and married V.G. "Glen" Elliott, now her former
husband. She had lived in Oak Ridge for the last 42 years.
As a young woman, Mrs. Elliott became involved with the Oak Ridge Women's
Softball League in the early 1960s and became one of the better female
softball players in the area. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially
Oak Ridge sports programs that involved her children.
After her children were almost grown, Mrs. Elliott went to work for the city
of Oak Ridge where she held the position of City Court clerk until her
retirement.
She recently joined Calvary Baptist Church, but had previously been a member
of Central Baptist Church for many years. She had been active with the
singles group at her church and in years past, was active with the Keystone
Elder Day Center.
Her family said she had many dear and close friends in Oak Ridge whom she
really loved and appreciated.
Mrs. Elliott is survived by her three children, Mike Elliott and his wife,
Jana Elliott, of Oak Ridge, Robert Elliott and his wife, Martha Elliott, of
Charleston, Tenn., and Michelle Lynn Elliott of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; her
grandson, Michael Lynn Daugherty of Lawrenceburg, Ky.; and several nieces and
nephews of her sister's husband.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou
Coiner, and by a daughter, Robin Kay Elliott.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Oak
Ridge Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve McDonald officiating.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Calvary
Baptist Church, 163 N. Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Weatherford
Mortuary.

KENNETH ALLEN DAUGHERTY, 33, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at
his home.
Mr. Daugherty was born Sept. 6, 1967, in Brentwood, Ohio, the son of Kenneth
"Donnie" and Dorothy "Dot" Daugherty of Clinton.
He had been employed as a contract worker with Gass Real Estate Company in
Oak Ridge.
Mr. Daugherty was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Dustin Ray Daugherty
of Sunbright; his sisters, Cheryl Daugherty and Wanda Carden and her husband,
Tim, all of Clinton; his grandmother, Opal Perkins of Streetsboro, Ohio; his
niece and nephew, Victoria Daugherty and Christopher Carden, both of Clinton;
and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Daugherty's girlfriend was Lisa Armes of Oak Ridge. Her children are
Rodney and Reanna.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, July 19, in the chapel of
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Mack Smith officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Black
Oak Baptist Church Cemetery in Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

HELEN JOYCE WALLS, 80, of Knoxville, died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in
Knoxville.
Mrs. Walls was born Oct. 10, 1920, at the family home in Maryville, the
daughter of Beecher E. and Edna Morton Mize.
She was the widow of Meredith W. Walls.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Braden of Knoxville and Edna Lee and
her husband, Bob, of Madison, Ala.; her son, Paul N. Walls and his wife,
Sharon, of Mount Juliet; and her brothers, Elmer Mize and Bob Mize and his
wife, Elizabeth, all of Maryville.
Mrs. Walls is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Tiffany
Morris, Wayne Braden, Joe Braden, Brandy Braden Wright, Virgil Braden Jr.,
Judy Braden Snyder, Robert H. Lee Jr., Ryan C. Lee, Ashley Walls, Shannon
Walls, Cassie Percifull, Danny Walls, Eddie Walls and Melinda Walls
Hackworth; her son-in-law, Carl Goff; and nine great-grandchildren and many
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by an
infant son, Meredith Beecher Walls; two other daughters, Joyce Nettie Heald
and Joylyn Sue Goff; two sisters, Barbara Mize and Martha Boruff; and a
son-in-law, Virgil W. Braden.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, July 19, in the chapel of Berry
Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, with the Rev. Garvan W. Walls
II officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Oliver
Springs Cemetery with the grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
National Hospice Organization, 1901 N. Moore St., Suite 901, Arlington, VA
22209; or to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN
37909.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

LAURA LONG JUSTICE, 87, of Monticello, Ind., formerly of Anderson County,
died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at White County Memorial Hospital in Indiana.
Mrs. Justice is survived by her daughters, Edna Clapp of West Lafayette,
Ind., and Imogene Simmons of Lafayette, Ind.; her sons, George Justice of
Delphi, Ind., Tom Justice of Frostproof, Fla., Sam Justice of Lafayette, Fred
W. Justice of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Richard Justice of Remington, Ind.;
and by 23 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and several
great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 20, at Dutch Valley Baptist
Church in Clinton with the Rev. Luke Kidwell officiating.
Burial will follow at Long Cemetery in the Dutch Valley community.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, July 19, at Anderson
County Funeral Home in Clinton.

EVELYN POTTS of Oliver Springs died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is handling arrangements, which were
incomplete this morning.
