Lacy Adams Banister, 73, died Sunday, July 1, at his home. He was a faithful
and active member of West LaFollette Baptist Church since 1952. He was a
deacon, former choir director and Sunday School teacher. He retired from
Bell South with 33 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Adams Banister and
brothers Percy and John Banister.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joyce Banister of LaFollette; his
son Don Banister of Houston, Texas; daughter Jane Lowe of LaFollette; sister
Mary Graham of Cadiz, Ky.; brother Claude Banister of Memphis, Tenn.; and
five grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, July 4, in the chapel of Martin Wilson
Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Robbins, Rev. Hobert McCreary and Rev. Jim
Wilcox officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) in
Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
The family received friends Wednesday night before services.
Lona Jewell Ayers, 95, of Harriman, formerly of Campbell County, died
Sunday, July 1, at Rockwood Health Care. She was a member of Clinch River
Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Birley Ayers, and her parents,
Geroge W. and LaFettia (Marrow) Almon.
She is survived by her son, Birley Ayers Jr. of Harriman.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at Cross Funeral Home
Chapel in LaFollette with the Rev. Tom Byrge officiating. Interment will be
in Davis Cemetery in Stinking Creek.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Cross
Chapel.
Clifford Lee Bolton, 53, of LaFollette died Monday, July 2, at St. Mary's
Medical Center of Campbell County. He was retired from CSX Railroad and was
a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Sallie Bolton.
Survivors include sons Justin Clifford Bolton of LaFollette and Tom Ridenour
of Jellico; daughter Melinda Singletary of Charleston, S. C.; brothers Roy
Bolton of Jacksboro and James Bolton of LaFollette; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were Wednesday, July 4, at Trinity Baptist Church with
Pastor Howard Tapp and Roy Bolton officiating. Interment was in Hall
Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Campbell County Honor Guard.
The family received friends Tuesday at Walters Funeral Home.
Wilma Jean Smith Finley, age 65 of LaFollette, departed this life on June
22, 2001 to be with her Lord and Savior after a long, hard fought battle
with emphysema. She was of the Baptist faith. Wilma's hobbies included
gardening and sewing but her children and grandchildren were the focus of
her life. Wilma loved a good practical joke and was a great storyteller. She
especially liked telling stories of her travel adventures during her
husband's many years in the service. She is preceded in death by her mother
Leoda McKinney Smith, father George Smith, brother Bill Smith, and sister
Opal Smith Muse. Wilma leaves behind to treasure her memory her beloved
husband of 47 years Austin Finley of LaFollette, son John Kevin Finley of
LaFollette, son Chris Finley of LaFollette, daughter Renee Sellers and son
in law Lester Sellers of Blue Ridge, Georgia, daughter Debra Wynn and son in
law Rodney Wynn of Oak Ridge, brother Robert Smith of Caryville, sister
Betty Robbins of Baltimore Maryland, sister Lucille Campbell of Youngstown,
Ohio, three very special grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service were 10:00 a.m. Monday at Cross Chapel. Rev. Larry Watts,
Bro. Carl Bradshaw officiating. Interment; was in Campbell Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cross Funeral Home.
Charles O. Fox Jr., 81, died Thursday, June 28, at his home. A native of
Campbell County, he was a son of the late Charles O. Fox Sr. and Eva Adcock
Fox. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical Institute in Chicago and was a
former employee of the Pittston Coal Corp. He was co-owner of Industrial
Machine Co., C&J Mining and Fox 10 Mining. He was a member of Lebanon
Memorial United Methodist Church. Upon retirement he lived in Abingdon and
Hansonville, Va.
He is survived by by wife, June Wright Fox; one daughter, Carol Fox, of the
home; two sons, Gary Wayne Fox of Hansonville and Robert Lynn Fox of Greer,
S.C.; one brother, John Harvey Fox of Harlan, Ky.; three grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 30, in Lebanon Memorial United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Carter officiating. Entombment followed
in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon.
Combs Funeral Service in Lebanon was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Alice Daugherty Hicks Hatmaker, 73, of Jacksboro, died Sunday, July 1st
at the home of her beloved niece and nephew Kimberly and Nathan Boshears,
after a lengthy illness. She attended Faith Baptist Church of Caryville.
She was preceded in death by parents Daniel and Birdie (Ward) Daugherty and
sister Jean Parks. She is survived by daughter Darlene Hicks of Knoxville
and son and daughter-in-law Charles Daniel and Mary Hicks of Duff, sister
and brother-in-law Faye and Gerald Phillips of Jacksboro, and brother and
sister-in-law Lawrence and Deloris Daugherty of Joliet, Ill. 6 grandchildren
and several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of
other family and friends.
Funeral services was Tuesday, July 3rd at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Tommy Reece
officiating in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home. The family will
receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be Wed. July 4th at 10 am at
New Vasper Cemetery. Arrangements by Martin Wilson Funeral Home of
LaFollette.
Willie E. Honeycutt, 81, of Ridge Wood, Tenn., died Wednesday, June 27, at
his daughter's house. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the
Pacific theater of operations. He also was retired from Union Carbide of Oak
Ridge, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and served as president of
the PTA for many years at Ridge Wood Elementary School. He was an active
member and deacon of Lake View Baptist Church. He was a loving father,
grandfather and great-grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family
and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Castene Byrd Honeycutt; his daughter,
Louise Russell; and his parents, Leonard and Arbanna Bauswell Honeycutt.
He is survived by his sons, R. L. Honeycutt of Columbus, Miss., Curtis
Honeycutt of Toele, Utah, and Jim Honeycutt of Knoxville; daughters Juanita
Deaver of Waynesville, N.C., Phyllis Simpson of Knoxville, Brenda Moore of
Maryville and Yvonne Honeycutt of Oak Ridge; his sister, Dora Allred of
Ypsilanti, Mich.; and 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, June 29, in the chapel of Martin Wilson
Funeral Home with the Rev. Asbury Byrd and Rev. Roger Stanley officiating.
Interment was Saturday, June 30, in Oak Grove Cemetery with the Campbell
County Honor Guard in charge of graveside services. The family received
friends before services.
Howard Baxter Lowe, 89, of Tanglewood Road, Caryville, died Thursday, June
28, at Farragut Health Care Center. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed
working on cars and liked to hunt and do arts and crafts. He enjoyed
attending church services at the nursing home.
He was preceded in death by wives Georgia Savannah Shelby and Minnie Belle
Longmire; sons Bobby Jack Lowe and Eddie Ray Lowe; daughter Barbara Sue
Issac; and parents Silas and Mary Elizabeth O'Patrick Lowe.
He is survived by sons Kyle Lowe of Hollywood, Calif., Phillip Lowe of
Brookville, Ohio, Howard C. Lowe of Springfield, Ohio, Ralph Lowe of
Germany, Paul Lowe and Jerry Wayne Lowe, both of Knoxville, and Billie Joe
Lowe of LaFollette; daughters Dianna Zachert of Taylor Ridge, Ill.,
Charlotte Housley of LaFollette, Shirley Oliver of Largo, Fla., Brenda
McFall and Robin Hicks, both of Knoxville, Nancy Decker of Leitchfield, Ky.,
and Reginia Schmidlin of Caryville; brother Harry Lowe of Gardiniere, N.Y.;
and numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Sunday, July 1, in Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev.
Monroe Johnson and Rev. Lloyd "Dalt" Campbell officiating. The family
received friends Saturday, June 30, at Martin Wilson Funeral Home.
Jacob P. Mozingo, 56, of Jellico died Monday, June 25, at University of
Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne Mozingo and Thomas Mozingo of Jellico; one
daughter, Mary Jane Perkey of Jellico; five brothers, Bill Mozingo and
Clarence Mozingo, both of Clairfield, Ray Mozingo of Harrogate and Darrell
Mozingo and Henry Mozingo, both of Lafollette; three sisters, Tilda Mozingo
Hatfield, Edna Faye (Sue) Mozingo Marlow and Silvia Mozingo Hamblen, all of
Clairfield; and one grandson.
Funeral services were on Thursday, June 28, at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with
Pastor Vic Edwards and Rev. Ellis Hoskins officiating. Burial was in
Rogerston Cemetery. Friends were received Wednesday night.
Martha Jane Tinch, 83, of 128 Alex Smith Lane, LaFollette, died Saturday,
June 30, at the Assisted Living Center in LaFollette. She was a member of
Forks Grove Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by husband Haskell Tinch; parents William Wesley
and Sadie Bowman Turner; brothers Lonnie, Coy, Frank, Hodge, Roe, Harvey,
Kelly and Warren Turner; sister Stella Walker and grandson Mark Tinch.
Survivors include sons Winton and Steve Tinch, both of LaFollette; sister
Bertha Berry of Speedwell; and five grandchildren.
The funeral was Monday, July 2, at Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev. Tim Moore
and Rev. Ronnie Poston officiating. Interment was Tuesday, July 3, in
Fincastle Cemetery. Family received friends Monday before the funeral.
Charles (Ralph) Wormsley Jr., 59, of Lake City died Friday, June 29, at
University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a faithful
member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Lake City where he taught
the Rector Sunday School Class for 30 years. Along with B.J. Young, he was
instrumental in the development of the Little League football program in
Lake City. He loved young people and coached in Little League football,
baseball and basketball. He loved to hunt and fish and spent many hours in
the woods and on the area lakes. He was employed at Peoples National Bank's
Clinton/Norris branch, where he served as bank manager and vice president.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte White Wormsley.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patsy Elliott Wormsley of Lake City;
daughter Krista Little of Clinton; son Clark Wormsley of Knoxville; father
Charles R. Wormsley Sr. of Lake City; and four grandchildren.
The family received friends Sunday, July 1, at First Baptist Church in Lake
City with the funeral service following with the Rev. Brian Courtney and
Rev. Wayne Markham officiating. Interment was Monday, July 2, at Woodhaven
Memorial Gardens in Claxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City was in charge of arrangements.
