LOIS MAUDE POLING CRISTY, 85, of Oak Ridge died Friday, May 25. She resided
at Briarcliff Health Care Center.
She was born March 23, 1916, in Bartlesville, Okla., the daughter of Samuel
and Vida Matteson Poling.
On Sept. 22, 1936, she married George Augustus Cristy. The Cristys came to
Oak Ridge in 1950 from Winnie, Texas as Mr. Cristy joined Union Carbide
Nuclear Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. They lived on Euclid Place
before building their home on East Drive in 1954. Mr. Cristy died Dec. 13,
1992.
Mrs. Cristy taught second grade Sunday school at Kern Memorial United
Methodist Church beginning in 1950 and actively participated in the Martha
Circle of the United Methodist Women. Arissa Garden Club of Oak Ridge availed
her love of flowers and encouraged her display of floral specimens and
arrangements. She volunteered at the Pink Placebo gift shop at the Methodist
Medical Center.
Mrs. Cristy is survived by sons, Stephen Cristy and his wife, Lou Ann, of Oak
Ridge, Mark Cristy of Oak Ridge, Jonathan Cristy and his wife, Terri, of Gold
River, Calif; two brothers, Leland Poling and his wife, Lois, of Tulsa,
Okla., and Bill Poling of Marysville, Calif.; six grandchildren, Timothy
Cristy of Columbus, Ohio, Michelle Cristy Couillaud and her husband, Alain,
of LeLandreau, France, Sam Cristy and his wife, Rina, of Port Jefferson
Station, N.Y., Matt Cristy and his wife, Mary, of Decatur, Ga., Jennifer
Cristy of Bloomington, Ind., and Sarah Cristy and Rachel Cristy, both of Gold
River, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Brown and Garrett Brown of
Decatur, Ga., and Gabriel Couillaud, France.
Mrs. Cristy's former daughter-in-law Ingrid Baroke died in Vienna, Austria.
Kern Church held funeral services Sunday, May 27, with the Rev. Bill Mooney
officiating.
Burial is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
Christian Children's Fund is the family's designated memorial fund for gifts
in Mrs. Cristy's honor.

ADELLA GENEVIEVE COLLINS, 80, Oak Ridge, died on May 25, 2001 at the
Methodist Medical Center.
Born in St. Edward, Nebraska on July 5, 1920 to parents Adelbert Kearny Weed
and Emma Wilhelmina Nelson Weed, she came to Oak Ridge in 1954 from Omaha,
Nebraska. A homemaker devoted to her family and friends, she was a member of
the First United Methodist Church. She was an active member in the Learner's
Well Circle, being the current sunshine chairman and past president,
secretary and treasurer of that organization. She enjoyed vegetable and
flower gardening, needle working, baking, and family history.
Mrs. Weed is survived by her husband, William T. Collins; her sons, Eugene
Thomas Collins and his wife, Emily, of Knoxville, Kurt Thomas Collins, of Oak
Ridge, her daughter, Patti Louise Tumlin and her husband, Michael, Marlow;
three grandchildren, Eric Thomas Collins, Sean Thomas Collins, and Lacey Rae
Tumlin; and one great-grandchild, Sarah Grace Collins; a sister-in-law,
Elizabeth Weed, of St. Edward, Nebraska and numerous nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at
Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Bill Mooney officiating.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Anderson Memorial Gardens
with the Rev. Robert T. Cantrell Jr. officiating.
Memorials may be made to Aid to Distressed Families of Anderson County, 1051
Oak Ridge Turnpike. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday
at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.

ANN K. PIOTROWSKI, 61, of Oak Ridge died Thursday, May 24, 2001 at home of
ovarian cancer. Born March 22, 1940 in Seattle, Washington, she was the
daughter of Donald C. and Vera L. Gillis.
Mrs. Piotrowski was a resident of Oak Ridge for 28 years. She was a graduate
of Seattle University and was employed by the City of Oak Ridge Recreation
and Parks department for the last 15 years. Previously, she had worked for
Parkway Cardiology Associates. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
Church.
Mrs. Piotrowski is survived by her husband, Stephen T. Piotrowski; sons, John
D. Piotrowski and his wife, Rachel of Knoxville, Daniel S. Piotrowski of
Tampere, Finland; a sister, Victoria L. Lamb; her mother, Vera L. Gillis; two
aunts, Leona Sullivan and Jane Chiappa all of Seattle; and many nieces and
nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Oak Ridge. The Rev. Gilbert Diaz will officiate.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of gifts to the
American Cancer Society, in care of Lee Costanzo, 103 Case Ln., Oak Ridge,
TN., 37830 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704,
Memphis, TN., 38173-0704.

The Rev. R. RICHARD SMITH, 70, of Knoxville, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in
Hilton Head, S.C.
Rev. Smith was a longtime area minister and had served many churches in Knox
and the surrounding counties. He was the founder of Yokefellow Ministries, a
non-profit missions organization. He was a member of Central Baptist Church
of Bearden.
He was a graduate of Baylor University in Texas and the Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
Mr. Smith was a former resident of Maryville and the retired owner and
president of Century Hardwoods in Maryville.
He is survived by his wife, Martha "Marty" Elliott Smith; his daughters, Lisa
Lambert and her husband, Jerry, of Knoxville, and Mellie Smith and her
husband, George Davis, of College Station, Texas; and his son, Mark Smith and
his wife, Lisa Smith, of Maryville.
Mr. Smith his also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Lambert, Sarah
Lambert, Jordan Smith and Ethan Smith; his brother, James Craig "Jim" Smith
and his wife, Debbie, of Maryville; his nephews, Ryan Smith and Andrew Titus;
and his niece, Lindsay Smith.
The funeral was held Sunday, May 27, at Central Baptist Church of Bearden
with the Rev. Robert Bowman officiating.
Burial followed at Grandview Cemetery in Knoxville. Ryan Smith, George Davis,
Jerry Lambert, Roy Cotton, Roy Wyatt and Joe Hammond served as pallbearers.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Yokefellow
Ministries Inc., P.O. 5057, Maryville, TN 37802.

ELMER L. COX, of Knoxville, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at St. Mary's
Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mr. Cox was born Oct. 12, 1911, in Anderson County, the son of Willie Martin
Cox and Allie Mae Lively Cox. He had lived in Coalfield for 26 years before
moving to Knoxville in 1971.
A retired coal miner, he had worked for Moore's Coal Co., Windrock Coal Co.,
and in coal mines in Harlan, Ky., and Bonnie Blue, Va.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 70 years, Hazel Bunch Cox; his sons, Jack
Cox and his wife, Dolma, of New Castle, Del., Don Cox and his wife, Joann, of
Wartburg, and Tommy Cox and his wife, Shirley, and Huey Cox and his wife,
Linda, all of Strawberry Plains; and his daughters, Aileen Mills of
Strawberry Plains, Mary Ruth Wilder of Jefferson City, Olaf "Dodie" Flynn of
Knoxville and Bessie Russell and her husband, Roy Clifford Russell, of Oliver
Springs.
He is also survived by his sisters, Ella Miller of Phenix City, Ala., and
Dorothy Melton of Oliver Springs; his brother, James Frank Cox and his wife,
Elizabeth, of Coalfield; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 5
great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph
Cox and Ronnie Cox, two brothers, Albert Cox and Tom Cox, and by two sisters,
Oma Cox and Ethel McCartt.
The funeral was held Sunday night, May 27, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral
Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Steve Hensley officiating.
A graveside service was to be conducted at 10 this morning, May 28, at Indian
Creek Cemetery.

HELEN MARTIN WILLIAMS, 82, of Clinton, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at
Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Williams was a member of Moran Baptist Church. She retired from Allied
Chemical of Knoxville.
She worked at Lane's Laundry in Clinton before going to work at the Anderson
County Court House as a custodian, where she was employed at the time of her
death.
Acquaintances said she loved working every day and did not miss work even
when she was sick. Her work and helping others was her life.
Mrs. Williams was born Sept. 14, 1818 in Anderson County, the daughter of the
late Sam and Irene Martin of the Dossett community.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Wise and Margaret Clowers;
and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Martin.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her daughter, Linda Braden and her husband, Gus
of Oak Ridge; two sons, Larry R. Martin and his wife, Janet of Claxton, and
Jay Martin of Clinton; three grandchildren, Robbie Martin of Atlanta, Todd
Martin of Claxton, and Stephanie Johnson and her husband, Shayne of Clinton;
one great-grandchild, Tyler Johnson of Clinton; a niece, Carol Adkins and her
husband, Bill of Oak Ridge; and special friends, Bill and Janice Yarber,
Cecil Narramore, Francis Simmons and many more that were very special to her.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton, with the funeral service following at 8, in the
chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber officiating.
Graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday, at Anderson Memorial
Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Acres, Don Acres, Virgil
Rainey, Cecil Narramore, Avery Johnson, Bill Yarber and Carl Stringfield.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of arrangements.
