MARIAM HELLEN HALLAU, 85, of Oak Ridge, died Monday evening, May 14, 2001, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Hallau was born Dec. 24, 1915, in St. Francis County, Mo., the daughter
of George Andrew and Elizabeth Harper Spray, now deceased.
A registered nurse, she was a graduate of Jewish Hospital School of Nursing
in St. Louis, Mo., and worked for several years in public health in St.
Louis.
Mrs. Hallau also worked for many years at Methodist Medical Center and had
served as supervisor of nurses.
She also served as a volunteer at the American Museum of Science and Energy
and at Methodist's Hospitality House.
Mrs. Hallau was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She
enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, doing embroidery and traveling.
Her family said her greatest pride and joy was her family.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Margaret G.
Hallau of Bowie, Md.; her daughter, Linda C. Hallau of Walterboro, S.C.; two
granddaughters, Teresa Laurel Hallau and Heather Susan Hallau, both of Bowie;
her sister-in-law, Ethel V. Spray of Oak Ridge; and several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James
G. Hallau, who died in August 1983. Also preceding her in death were her
sister, Lydia Batten, and two brothers, Austin Spray and Lloyd Spray.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, in the chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary. The Rev. Jesse Bradshaw will officiate.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, May 18, at Anderson
Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6014, Oak Ridge, TN 37831; First
Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 203 Michigan Ave., Oak Ridge, TN
37830; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
