BURDICK, BETTY L. - age 72, of Powell, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at
her home. She was born on February 11, 1929 in LaFollette. Betty was a member
of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Powell. Betty formerly worked in sales
at Oak Ridge Optical. She is preceded in death by her husband, Myron Burdick.
Anderson County Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements. The
family will hold a memorial service in honor of Betty at Cumberland
Presbyterian Church in Powell on May 19, 2001 at 10 a.m.

JOHNSON, GARNETT WOODROW, SR. - age 76, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday,
May 9, 2001 at Ft. Sanders Park West Hospital in Knoxville. He attended Black
Oak Baptist Church. He retired from Union Carbide as a Plating Specialist.
Preceded in death by parents, William Walter & Iva Huckaby Johnson; brothers,
Cecil & Eugene Johnson. Born May 28, 1924 in Anderson County. Survivors:
wife, Edna Johnson of Clinton; children, Diana & Benny Brown of Glenuse, TX,
Garnett Johnson, Jr. of Clinton, Debbie & Kenneth Keck of Oak Ridge, Ricky &
Lisa Johnson of Clinton; grandchildren, Renee Brown, Andrew Brown, Chloe
Johnson, Tucker Johnson; sisters, Marie Guy of Clinton, Maxine & George James
of Claxton, Elizabeth & Bob Hubner of Clinton, Mary Alice & M.J. Robbins of
Livingston; brothers, Edward & Margaret Johnson of Kingston, Norris & Lucy
Johnson of Ariz., Floyd Johnson of Knoxville, Harlen Johnson of Clinton,
Vernon & Louise Johnson of Clinton; several nieces & nephews. The family will
receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday May 11, 2001 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in
Clinton. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel with Rev.
Bill Dean & Rev. Larry Pugh officiating. Interment will follow the service at
Anderson Memorial Gardens. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of
all arrangements

PIERCE, MRS. DOROTHY NAOMI (EVERETT) - age 83, formerly of Kingston, passed
on to be with the Lord at 8:10 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at her residence
in Oak Ridge. "Ms. Dot" was born in Hamilton County, Tenn., and attended
Birchwood High School. She worked in Cleveland, Tenn., prior to moving to Oak
Ridge in 1944. She was a beloved long-time member of Bethel Presbyterian
Church in Kingston, where she resided for forty-three years. Children were
the delight of her life. She taught a nursery school for many years, taught
Sunday School children, and worked with children at Michael Dunn Center for
several years. Her strong faith in the Lord, love, compassion and endearing
optimism made her a ray of sunshine in the lives of her family and those who
knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ernest Eugene
(Gene) Pierce of Oak Ridge; sons, Don and wife Kathy Pierce, and Larry Pierce
of Kingston; daughter, Janice Pierce of Oak Ridge; two grandsons, Jay Pierce
and Clay Pierce of Cookeville; four sisters, Beryl Perry of Chattanooga,
Zenola Killingsworth of Rossville, Ga., Laquita and husband Chester Hickman
of Harrison, Norma and husband Bobby Frazier of Ooltewah, and one brother,
Roland and wife Francis Everett of Chattanooga. Preceded in death by parents,
Harrison and Lucy (Knox) Everett; two sisters, Julia and husband Bill Gamble,
and Cleo and husband Jack Davis, and three brothers, Clifford Everett, Lloyd
and wife Frankie Everett, and Jay Everett; brothers-in-law, Junior Perry and
Harold Killingsworth. A short memorial service will be held at Bethel
Presbyterian Church, 203 S. Kentucky St., Kingston, Saturday, May 12, 2001,
at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers or food, please make contributions to a charity
or food fund of your choice, or to Bethel Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 10,
Kingston, TN 37763. Kyker Funeral Home, of Kingston, in charge of
arrangements.
