Though I'm not sure about their connection to Peter Cooper at the moment,
I can possibly give some insight into the relationship of Jonathan P. Powell
and John J. Sargent.

Jonathan P. Powell who married Lucy Baker was the son of James F. Powell
(son of Jonathan Powell and Anna Rice) and Martha Jones, who was the daughter
of Dr. John Jones and Elizabeth Mosley. Martha Jones' sister, Nancy W.
Jones, married John J. Sargent. John and Nancy Jones Sargent where my gr
gr grandparents.

Maybe there is a clue in this. Possibly there was a Powell/Cooper marriage
somewhere. I'll do some more checking. I believe that James F. Powell's
family is listed on the LDS site at familysearch.org.
