BANKS, BERTHA SHELTON - age 95, of Lake City, passed away Sunday, January 21,
2001, at the Lake City Health Care Center. She was born May 24, 1905, in
Morgan Co., Tenn. Bertha was a retired teacher of the Anderson County School
System for 42 years, teaching at Briceville and Lake City. She was a member
of the Main Street Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for
the Grace Class for many years. Bertha was active in all church activities
until her health failed. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma,
Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge, Keen Club, and Home Demonstration Club. She is
preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Shelton; husband, Ulys
Banks, and sisters, Ruth Shelton Weaver, Ruby Sharp and Mae Dabney, and
brother, Junior Shelton. Survivors: sisters, Virginia Foust of Lake City and
Pauline Sanders of Michigan; nephews, Joe Dabney of Arkansas and Larry
Sanders of Michigan; niece, Linda Hammer of Knoxville, and a host of great
grand nieces and nephews, and many friends. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday,
January 24, 2001, at the Main Street Baptist Church. Funeral service 8 p.m.

Don Martin officiating. Interment 11 a.m. Thursday, January 25, 2001, at the
Clinch River Cemetery, Lake City, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests, memorials may be made to the Family Life Center, of the Main Street

DuBOSE, LOUISE KISNER - age 94, of Andersonville, passed away Saturday,
January 20, 2001, at the NHC Healthcare Center in Oak Ridge. She and her
husband, James, had owned and operated Andersonville Boat Dock for over forty
years. They were the first to privately own the dock on Norris Lake. When
World War II started, they had a little difficulty due to most of the
fishermen going off to war, which was 90 percent of the lakes recreational
use and gasoline was rationed making it hard for those left behind. Then the
Manhattan project came to Oak Ridge and the government's interest in
providing recreation for the workers led to new customers and supplies of
gasoline for the dock. While in Norris, she was an active member of Norris
Religious Fellowship Church. Born February 8, 1906, in Fairmont, West
Virginia. Preceded in death by husband, James R. DuBose; parents, John and
Mary Strauser Kisner; step son, Dr. Moultrie DuBose; brother, George Kisner;
sister, Ora Kisner. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Carus Hicks and Mary
DuBose of Oak Ridge; daughter, Jo DuBose; stepson, Rembert DuBose of Atlanta,
Ga.; grandchildren, Michael DuBose, William DuBose and James DuBose;
great-granddaughters, Mary E. DuBose and Lauren T. DuBose; great-grandson,
Carus Franklin DuBose; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be
held 2 p.m. Monday, January 22, at Norris Memorial Gardens. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton, in charge of all arrangements.
GORMAN, ROGER DeWAYNE - age 16, of Andersonville, passed away Sunday, January
21, 2001, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a
Junior at Anderson County High School, where he was a member of the baseball
team, Drama Club, Drafting I & II. According to faculty members, he was an
excellent student. He also worked as a Student Counselor on Clinton Breakaway
trips. Born April 6, 1984, in Morristown, to Kenneth DeWayne and Karla June
Lane Gorman. Preceded in death by grandparents, Willie and Wilma Velma Lane.
Survivors: father and mother, Kenneth "Cotton" Dewayne and Karla June Lane
Gorman of Andersonville; grandparents, James E. and Peggy Gorman of
Morristown; special friends, Jessie Wolle of Bean Station and Tammy Holbrook
and Tessa Frazier, and numerous aunts, uncles and a large circle of friends.
The Gorman family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8
p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Garvin Walls officiating. Interment will be held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hamblin Memorial Gardens in Morristown. Memorials may
be made to Anderson County Baseball Boosters Club, PO Box 324, Clinton, TN

QUEENER, EDITH "HUCHIE" - age 64, of Heiskell, passed away Sunday, January
21, 2001, at her residence. She was a member of Deep Springs Baptist Church.
After she became ill, she thoroughly enjoyed watching Mt. Pisgah Baptist
Church television program and the visits by the Pastor of Mt. Pisgah, Rev.
Garvin Walls. She retired from Modine Manufacturing in Clinton, where she had
worked as a machine operator. Preceded in death by parents, Esco "Jake" and
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Kerr Dew; brothers, Robert and Joe Dew; sister, Neomia
"Tom" Dew. Born May 7, 1936, in Anderson County. Survivors: husband, Joe Mack
Queener of Heiskell; son, Perry "Jay" Queener and wife Mary of Knoxville;
daughters, Lyn Lucas and husband Darrell of Knoxville, Ann Nelson and husband
Mark of Heiskell, and Donna Patterson and husband Jeff of Heiskell;
grandchildren, Nick Lucas, Amy Lucas, Jake Patterson, Josh Patterson, and
Jordan Patterson; sisters, Louise Wallace of Heiskell and Marilyn Portwood
and husband Earl of Clinton; several nieces and nephews. Special friend,
Nellie Robbins of Clinton. The family will receive friends 6-8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, January 24, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral
service following at 8:30 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Garvin Walls
officiating. Interment will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sartin Cemetery.

SMITH, JAMES WILLIAM "BILL" - age 77, of Clinton, went to be with the Lord,
Friday, January 19, 2001, at 2:30 p.m., after a battle with cancer. He was a
devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was born in LaFollette on July
25, 1923, and moved to Clinton with his family when he was seven years old.
He was a graduate of Clinton High School, where he played football and
basketball. He graduated from Maryville College. In his free time, he enjoyed
playing tennis, golf, swimming, diving and playing the piano. He was a United
States Navy Veteran, who served in World War II. He was a lifelong member of
Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton. In past years, he served on the
Board and Usher Committee. He was an assistant Boy Scout Leader and also
coached Little League Baseball. He worked as an accounting analyst with Union
Carbide/Martin Marietta until retirement. Preceded in death by his father and
mother, J. V. and Nancy Ford Smith; son, John Richard Smith. Survivors: wife
of nearly 59 years, Juanita Webb Smith of Clinton; sons, J. W. Smith and wife
Dawn of Kerrville, Texas, and David Smith and wife Vicki of Knoxville;
sisters, Margaret Underwood of Reno, Nevada, and Helen Weaver of Austin,
Texas; daughter-in-law, Betty Smith of Oak Ridge; seven grandchildren;
special nephew, James M. Underwood; special friends, Leslie and Jean Fielden.
Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 28, at Memorial United
Methodist Church in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
Memorial United Methodist Church, 323 North Main Street, Clinton, TN 37716.
