ALLEN JAMES BLAY, 78, of the Claxton community, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000,
at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Blay was retired from Union
Carbide Nuclear Division as an experimental machinist with the Oak Ridge Y-12
Plant. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Old Hickory, Tenn., and a
50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Newport, Ver.
He was born in Newport, Ver., on Aug. 29, 1922, the son of James and Amy
Wilson Blay, both now deceased. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. Mr.
Blay is survived by his wife, June Nighbert Blay; his daughter, Barbara
Dotson and her husband, Barry, of Memphis; his son, James E. Blay and his
wife, Monica, of Albuquerque, N.M.; his grandsons, Jeffrey Nixon and Matthew
Nixon; his great-grandson, Jacob Nixon; and a niece and a nephew. In addition
to his parents, his sister, Edna Hazelton, and a brother, Leonard Blay, died
earlier. The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Oct. 16, in the chapel of
Holly-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Samuel Dean officiating. A
graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Lynnhurst
Cemetery in Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at
the funeral home.
RAY LYNN VILES, 65, of Clinton, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, surrounded by
family and friends. Mr. Viles was born April 21, 1935, in Anderson County,
the son of Virgil and Opal Viles, who are deceased. He was a pipefitter and
belonged to union local 718. He was a member of Alpha Masonic Lodge No. 376
in Clinton, and he was a York Rite Mason and a member of the Shriners. Mr.
Viles was a member of Blowing Springs Baptist Church of Clinton. He is
survived by his wife of 41 years, Caroline Brock Viles; his daughter, Robin
Prater and her husband, Jimmy, of Clinton; his sons, Perry Viles and his
wife, Mickey, of Atlanta, Ga., and Tony Viles and his wife, Suzanna, of
Clinton; his sister, Jo Ann Gunn and her husband, Anthony, of Lake City; and
his brothers, Mack Viles and his wife, Frances, of Maryville and Dallas Viles
and his wife, Ardena, of Lake City. Mr. Viles is also survived by his
grandchildren, Allison and Bo Prater and Morgan, Casey and Alex Viles; his
grandchildren "by heart," Kaylee, Erin, Morgan and Brooklyn Webster; his
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wade and Lynda Brock, James Brock and
Wanda and Hoyet Hill, all of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews. Kay Kay
and Jim Webster of Clinton were considered special friends. Another brother,
Larry Viles, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Oct. 16, at Blowing Springs Baptist
Church with the Rev. Gary Smith, the Rev. Jimmy Davidson and the Rev. Rick
Teague officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct.
17, at Blowing Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Blowing
Springs Baptist Church, c/o Rex Rhea, treasurer, 125 Blowing Springs Lane,
Clinton, TN 37716.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 tonight at the church.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling arrangements.
