BROWN, BILLY JOE - age 66, of Powell, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on
Thursday, August 10, 2000, after a lengthy illness. He was a member of First
Baptist Church of Powell, Tenn. He was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial
University. Retired with 41 years of service as Branch Manager of Commercial
Credit. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He had a
great love for the lake. He and his wife had a home at Wani Village where
they lived during the summer months. He was a loving husband, father, and
grandfather and will be sadly missed. Preceded in death by parents, Sherman
and Florence Brown. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death
by a brother, Clifford, and sister, Gladys Carroll. He is survived by his
wife of 43 years, Betty Sue; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Kenny
Harrell, and very special grandchildren, Devin and Elise Harrell; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Everett and Mildred, Wheeler and Wiledene, Willard and
Anna Lillian, Sherman Jr. and Betty Lou; sister and brother-in-law, Reva Jean
and Ned Jones; sister, Moverine Miller; several nieces and nephews and hosts
of beloved friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on
Saturday, August 12, at Martin Funeral Home in LaFollette. The funeral will
be at 8 p.m. with Rev. Phil Jones officiating. Family and friends will meet
at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, August 13, for a 2 p.m. graveside and interment service
at Woodlawn Cemetery of LaFollette, Tenn. Pallbearers: Larry, Laddy, Jerry,
and Steve Brown, JoeHarrell and Allen Surgenor. Honorary Pallbearers: Ernie
Brown and Jack Harrell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Powell First Baptist Church Building Fund or The Shriners' Children's
Hospital. Martin Funeral Home of LaFollette, in charge of arrangements.
HAWKINS, REV. WARNER - age 78, of the Clear Branch community in Lake City,
went to be with his Lord Wednesday, August 9, 2000. He was born May 20, 1922
in Anderson County, Tenn. Warner was the pastor of the Schultz Hollow Baptist
Church for 20 years. He was the former pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church
of Lake City, Piney Grove Baptist Church of Heiskell and the New Cannan
Baptist Church of Scott Co. Warner was a veteran of WWII where he was a POW
for 9 months. Warner received many Citations and Medals. He loved coon
hunting, ginsening, camping and spending time with his family, whom he loved
very much. Warner is preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Elizabeth
Hawkins; wife, Gladys Hawkins; brothers, Jay and Douglas Hawkins; sister,
Bertha Murray; and step son, Sammie Turnbill. Survivors: wife of 26 years,
Mary Lou Hawkins, Lake City; sons & daughters in law, Doug & Juanita Hawkins,
Chatsworth, Ga., Tommy & Bertha Hawkins, Briceville, Roger & Gail Hawkins,
Lake City; step son & daughter in law, Steve & Debra Turnbill, Clinton;
daughter & son in law, Barbara & Paul Massey, Lake City; step daughter and
son in law, Kay & Rev. Jimmy Ault, Lake City; brothers & sisters in law,
Frank & Betty Hawkins, Rockwood, Roy Hawkins, Lake City, Paul & Betty
Hawkins, Rockwood; sister & brother in law, Rose & Roy Byrge, Lake City;
sister, Hessel Kneiwani, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews, and many many friends. Visitation 6-9 p.m.
Saturday, August 12, 2000 at the Cox-Martin Funeral Home. Funeral service 2
p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2000 at the Schultz Hollow Baptist Church with Rev.
Bill Tackett, Rev. Ed Sieber, and Rev. Charlie Marlow officiating. Warner
will lie in state 1 hour prior to his funeral service. Interment will follow
the funeral service at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Lake City, Tenn. with full
Military Honors at the graveside.
HUTCHISON, CLARA BELL - age 68, of Clinton, passed away Wednesday, August 9,
2000 at Methodist Medical Center. She was a member at Blowing Springs Baptist
Church. She is preceded in death by parents, John and Christine Teague
French; husband, Olen Hutchison, and son, Ronnie Hutchison. Survivors: son,
Olen "Eddie" Hutchison of Nashville; grandchildren, Robby Hutchison of
Andersonville and Trent Hutchison of Clinton; sister, Mary Schlickman of
Clinton; brother, John H. French of Hutson, Florida; several nieces and
nephews; special friend, Lowell Mack of Clinton. The family will receive
friends Friday, August 11, 2000, from 6-8 p.m. at the Holley-Gamble Funeral
Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, August 11, 2000, at 8 p.m. The
interment will be 10 a.m. Saturday at McCarty Woodhaven. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home, in Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
