ADKINS, CLAUDE NATHAN, SR., - age 76, of Athens, passed away Monday, July 03,
2000, at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah, Tennessee. He was a member of
First Baptist Church of Norris. He was a United States Army veteran who
served in World War II. Mr. Adkins was a retired Park Ranger from the
Department of Interior at Vicksburg National Military Park in Vicksburg,
Mississippi. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Masonic Lodge #653, in Etowah,
Tennessee. He was also a member of Alhambra Shrine Temple of Chattanooga.
Preceded in death in 1998 by wife of 48 years, Elaine "Betty" Lynz Adkins;
parents, Robert Hovah & Bessie Tindell Adkins; brothers, Clarence Edward &
Darryl Ben Adkins. Born October 8, 1923 in Andersonville, Tennessee.
Survivors: daughter, Lynette Bailey & husband, Ray of Athens; son, Claude N.
Adkins, Jr. & wife, Dianne of Johnson City; 5 grandchildren, Doug Bailey &
wife, Brandi of Etowah, Traci Kasper & husband, Joel of Athens, Chris Bailey
of Athens, Nathan Adkins & Blair Adkins, both of Johnson City; special & dear
friend, Vonda Parker of Norris. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00
p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at Grandview
Memorial Gardens in Clinton with Rev. Dennis Cagle officiating. Masonic Rites
will follow the service. Full military honors will also be conducted at
gravesite by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers
will be Doug Bailey, Chris Bailey, Nathan Adkins, Joel Kasper, Horace
"Willie" Williams, Ralph Parker & Chris Haley. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of
Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
EZELL, HERSAL EDWARD - age 70, of the Clinton Towers in Clinton, passed away
at the home of his son, in Andersonville, Sunday, July 2, 2000. He was a
member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Andersonville. He worked for
approximately twenty years at the City of Norris Maintenence Department and
also with the Anderson County Schools. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing
and was an avid gardener. He took a lot of price in growing beautiful
tomatoes. Preceded in death by parents, Bruce and Lucy Demarcus Ezell;
brothers, Basil & Theodore Ezell. Born August 20, 1929 in Anderson County.
Survivors: wife of 17 years, Nora Ellen Sliger Ezell of Clinton; sons, Ronny
Ezell & wife, Sue of Andersonville, Mike Ezell & wife, Jerry of
Andersonville, Darryl Ezell & wife, Lisa of Clinton; grandsons, Ronny, Mark &
Ricky Ezell of Andersonville; brothers, Loren Ezell & wife, Eva of
Andersonville, Gary Ezell & wife, Pat of Norris; sister, Linda Ezell of
Clinton; several nieces; nephews; & so many good friends at Clinton Towers.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2000 at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8:00
p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Bill Ellis & Rev. Harold Ellis officiating.
Interment will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6th, at Mt. Olive Baptist
Church Cemetery in Andersonville. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in
charge of all arrangements.
