McGHEE, COLUMBUS SAMPSON - age 88 of LaFollette passed away Friday June 23,
2000 at the LaFollette Medical Center. He was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist
Church. Columbus belonged to United Mine Workers of America Union Local
#1569. Columbus was a past president of the Tennessee Black Lung Association
and was very instrumental in establishment of the local Black Lung Clinic. He
assisted many Campbell County coal miners in obtaining the Black Lung
pensions. Columbus was preceded in death by parents, Samuel Millard and Mary
Etta Adkins McGhee; daughter, Jewel Fair; brothers, Ulysses, Lee, Bill and
John McGhee; sister, Dora Day and half sister Geneva. Columbus is survived by
wife, Dorothy McGhee of LaFollette; sons, Chris McGhee of Hiram, Ohio, Matt
Kenneth McGhee of New York and Robert McGhee of Jacksboro; step son, Ben
Austin of Andersonville and daughter, Merietta McGhee of Kent, Ohio; sisters,
Nellie Bailey of Clinton and Mildred McKamey of Lake City; half sister, Ruby
Monhollen of Kenvir, Ky., and Lorene; several grandchildren; great
grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Sunday June 25, 2000 in the chapel of Martin
Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Tapp officiating. Family and friends
will meet Monday 11 a.m. at Mt. Paran Cemetery for interment. The family will
receive friends Sunday before services. Martin Wilson Funeral Home in charge
of arrangements.

PERKINS, ODESSA LAY - age 95 of Caryville, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000
at LaFollette Medical Center. She was a member of Caryville First Baptist
Church. Preceded in death by husband, James Matthew Perkins; sisters, Lela
Lay, Reba Jones & Stella Monday; brothers, Alonzo, Ernal, Clyde & James Lay.
Survivors: son, Buford T. Perkins, Greenville; daughter & son in law, Joline
& Bill Longaker, Caryville; granddaughters, Renee Massengill, Jeannie
McKamey, Debbie Johns & Brenda Perkins; grandsons, Tommy & Jimmy Perkins; 12
great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Madge Freels,
Manchester, Tenn., Jean Randolph, Jacksboro, Shirley Hughes, LaFollette;
several nieces & nephews. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday Cross Funeral Chapel
Rev. Charles Noss, Rev. T.D. Hooker officiating. Interment Campbell Memorial
Gardens. The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. before the service Sunday
at Cross Funeral Home. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home.
