FOX, MAYOR WILLIAM ELBRIDGE - age 81 of Clinton, passed away Thursday, June
1, 2000 at Ft. Sanders Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born May 11, 1919
in Jackson, Kentucky. He was a member and Deacon at Clinton First Baptist
Church. He was a retired "Major" of the US Army after 20 years of service. He
was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 30 years. He was former
president of the Oak Ridge Men's Bowling Association He coached Clinton
Little League Baseball for many years. He is preceded in death by parents,
Thomas W. and Elizabeth Strong Fox; sister, Dorothy Margrave. Survivors: wife
for 53 years, Rosella Fox, Clinton; son, "Retired" Lt. Colonel William E.
Fox, Jr. and wife, Karen, San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Bradley and
wife, Kristin White, Atlanta, Angela and husband, Jeffrey Chrobak, Manassas,
Va., Jeff Fox, Murrels Inlet, SC, Michael Fox, Auburn, Ala.; sister, Minnie
Manley, Selma, Ala., Elizabeth and husband, John Bolton, Manassas, Va., Hazel
and husband, Joe Bolton, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Bessie Smith, Oak Ridge, Tenn.,
Bertha Mae and husband, Jim Jenkins, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; brothers, Henry and
wife, Wilma Fox, Chattanooga, Tenn., Fred and wife, Onah Fox, Clinton;
several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday June
3, 2000 at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Dean
officiating. Family will receive friends 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000 at
the funeral home. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in
Clinton. Memorial may be made to Clinton Little League Assoc. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
MARINER, MARION EMMALEE BRANUM - age 75 of Norris passed away suddenly Wed.
morning May 31, 2000 with her son by her side at her home in Norris. Marion
was a graduate of Horace Maynard High School in Maynardville and Berea
College. She received her Masters from the University of Tennessee during her
career as a home economist, home agent in Campbell, Claiborne and Roane
counties, 4-H Club agent, educator at Fairview Elementary and Horace Maynard
High Schools, and Professor of Family Life and Expanded Nutrition in the
Institute of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee. She authored a
number of articles and course materials used in home economics and 4-H
programs across Tn. A native of the New Loyston community in Union County,
she had been a resident of Norris since 1970 and served two terms on the town
council. A life long Methodist, she was a member and sang in the choir of the
Norris United Methodist Church. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, the
Business and Professional Women's Club, and was Norris City Librarian
following retirement from 39 years with UT, prior to moving in with her son
to care for her granddaughter and namesake, Emmalee, as her son and
daughter-in-law completed their Navy careers. She volunteered at Fairview
School to read to kindergarten children and in Oak Ridge in reading to the
blind. An avid hiker, animal and plant lover, she could often be found in the
Norris watershed or trails in the East Tn. hills which she loved. She was
preceded in death by her parents, Elvin and Gertrude Coppock Branum; her
husband George Thomas Mariner, Sr., originally of Jacksboro; her brothers
Fred, Earl and H.C. Branum; and her sisters Orphia and Bonnie. She is
survived by her sisters Johnnie Mae Waldrop and Maycle Cummings of Norris;
her sister Ethyl; and brother-in-law Fred Johnson of Sheffield, Ala.; her
brother and sister-in-law Leon and Phyllis Branum of Union County;
sister-in-law Mildred Branum of Maynardville; her son George Thomas (Tommy)
Mariner, Jr.; daughter-in-law Rosemary Bryant Mariner; and granddaughter
Emmalee Ann Mariner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial
gifts in lieu of flowers should be given in her name to Berea College in
Berea, Kentucky or to the charity of your choice. Visitation will be Friday,
June 2, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gentry-Griffey Chapel in Fountain City with
the funeral services to follow conducted by the Rev. Burney Hutchison of
Valley Grove Baptist Church and Rev. Catherine Nance of the Norris United
Methodist Church. Graveside services will be conducted Sat., June 3, 2000, 11
a.m. at the New Loyston Cemetery on Hickory Valley Road in Union County. A
memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morris United Methodist
Church, Rev. Catherine Nance officiating. Arrangements by Gentry-Griffey
Chapel.
