DAUGHERTY, MR. RUSSELL - age 77, of Jacksboro, went to be with the Lord
Sunday, April 9, 2000. He was an active member and trustee of Indian Creek
Baptist Church and was a member of the Jacksboro Lodge #322 F&AM. He retired
in 1980 from Fisher Body I General Motors Division in Flint, Mich. He worked
in Oak Ridge during the construction of the atomic bomb and he had also
worked with TVA. He was preceded in death by father & mother, J.R. & Melvinia
and brothers, Everett & Hyrmal. He was a loving husband to Thelma, his wife
of 59 years; beloved father to daughter & son-in-law, JoAnn & Bruce
Meriwether of Jacksboro; sons & daughters-in-law, David Arnold & Millie,
Harold & Darlene, all of Grand Blanc, Mich., Steve & Karin of Chapel Hill, NC
and Mark & Rayma of Jacksboro; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren;
brothers & sisters-in-law, Rosoc & Glenna, Edgar & Margaret, and Marshal and
Mary; sister, Zorie Lindsay of Jacksboro; aunts, Bidie & Jimmie Davis of
Caryville; special nieces, Judy Freeman of Jacksboro and Linda Farley of
Chaleston, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, and many special friends. Funeral
services 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at Indian Creek Baptist Church with
Rev. Ralph Leach officiating. Mr. Daugherty will lie in state 1-2 p.m. before
services at the church. Interment will follow the services in Indian Creek
Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2000
with Masonic Services following at 8 p.m. by the Jacksboro Masonic Lodge #322
F&AM. Martin Wilson Funeral Home of LaFollette in charge of arrangements.

HIGDON, CARL BOWDEN - age 94, of LaFollette, went to be with his Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 9, 2000. Mr. Higdon, who was born on April 29,
1905, was a lifelong resident of LaFollette where he was well-known as a
LaFollette businessman, farmer of the Valley View Community, and a Campbell
County School Bus owner and operator for many years. Mr. Higdon and his
brothers, Evan and Shug, owned and operated the Royal Lunchroom for many
years. The hotdogs they made and served were known near and far. He loved his
church, Fincastle United Methodist Church, and enjoyed golfing for many years
until his health failed. Mr. Higdon was the last living child of Fannie and
Adolph Higdon. He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, John, Evan
and Ernest (Shug); 5 sisters, Effie Moore, Essie Huddleston, Pearl Powell,
Clara Jesse, and Dorothy Higdon; sons, C.B. Higdon, Jr. and Ernest Edward
Higdon. He is survived by his wife, Ora Iona Cox Higdon, to whom he would
have been married for 71 years on April 25. Other survivors include daughter,
Vera Jo Henegar and husband Maj. (Ret.) William Howard Henegar, Sr. of
Clinton; sons and wives, Robert Jack and Mary Elizabeth Shelby Higdon of
Charlotte, NC, Jerry Raymond and Rebecca Tallent Higdon of Birmingham, Ala.,
Charles Ronald and Peggye Wilson Higdon of Winston-Salem, NC, Col. (Ret.)
Samuel Wayne and Pamela Chanoitt Higdon of Chapel Hill, NC; 15 grandchildren;
13 great grandchildren; 2 special nephews who were as sons to him and their
wives, Charles and June Cox, Bill and Syondra Cox, all of LaFollette; and a
host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at
Martin-Wilson Mortuary 6-8 Wednesday evening. Funeral services will be held
at the Fincastle United Methodist Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with
interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. David Lord will be in
charge of the service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the Fincastle United Methodist Church.

STANTON, THOMAS L. - age 66 of Clinton, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2000 at
the Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. He was a member of the Liberty
Baptist Church, retired from the US Navy and he was a Mason. He is survived
by wife, Katie Stanton, and 4 children, Lynn and wife Joy Brooks of Matthews,
NC, Karen and her husband Ron Eslinger of Norfolk, Va., Glenn and wife Leslie
Stanton of Washington, and Margie Stanton of Knoxville; 2 brothers, Jack and
wife Dot Stanton and Bob and wife Dot Stanton, all of Knoxville; 3 sisters,
Linda and husband A.R. Phillips of Clinton, Kate and husband Willard
Hutchison of Knoxville, and Betty and husband Ralph Kline of Pensacola, Fla.;
8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 11, 2000 6-8 p.m. with the
funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of the Anderson County Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens
at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2000 with full military honors. Pallbearers
will be Arnold Hunley, Bob Stanton, Jack Stanton, Dan Idles, Doug Powell, and
Ron Powell. Anderson County Funeral Home, Clinton, in charge of arrangements.

VARNADORE, MELBA - 78, of Oak Ridge, passed away Monday, April 10, 2000. Born
to Charles D. and Zelphia Wilfong in Chattanooga, she spent 35 years in Oak
Ridge helping others as a nurse and was employed many years by NHC Health
Care of Oak Ridge. Active in her community, she was a member of the Oak Ridge
Business Women's Assoc. and Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. In addition to
her parents, preceded in death by husband Mark D. Varnadore, Jr., brothers,
Charles Wilfong and Rev. Kenneth Wilfong; a grandchild, Charles Allen
Varnadore. Survivors: son Phillip Varnadore and fiancee' Helen Courtney of
Knoxville; daughter, Janice Varnadore of Oak Ridge; sisters, Elizabeth
Jackson of Chattanooga and Athalene Wilfong of Phoenix, AZ; brother and
sister-in-law, E.T. and Polly Varnadore of Oak Ridge; special friend, Jesse
Qualls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Into The Light
Ministries, PO Box 6495, Oak Ridge, TN 37831. Honoring her wishes, the family
has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date
with family members Rev. Janice Varnadore and Pastor Helen Courtney
