Hello everyone,

After a bout with a bad cold I am back on my feet and have finally
finished copying all 620 pages of the 4 volumes of the Brush Creek
Primitive Baptist Church from Microfilm to paper. All 13 1/2 pounds of
it!

For those of you who missed the first part of this transcription, you
can see a partial list of members at
http://rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/tngen/brush.htm at the Smith County, TN Web
site. This church was established in 1802 and the records are spotty
until June 1828 when the church kept a book of entries for every monthly
meeting. The four Volumes take the church through to June 1971. Due to
Privacy, I will only be transcribing the records up to around 1920. The
rest of the records can be obtained on the microfilm from the TN
Archives.

Thank you again for everyone who supported this project with donations.
When all is said and done there will be a few extra dollars which I will
be sending to Charlie to help with the census transciption project.

It is my hope to share with everyone the information contained in these
records which not only include some Baptisms, weddings and deaths, they
contain acceptance, exclusions, dismissals of members. This can be very
important because it gives an idea of when a family moved to Southern
Smith County and possibly when they moved on. These records also
mentioned people from other churches in the county that were present at
ordination of ministers and deacons and other such church business.

If your family came from southern Smith County, there is a good chance
there is a mention of them. I counted over 800 names in the first two
volumes before I gave up. :o) These pages will find a home at the
Smith Co., TN Web site as they are completed.

For all the folks who offered to help transcribe these records and those
who wish to help, I would like you to email me and I will send you
directions for format and your first page. My husband has been sweetly
talked into scanning all the pages. I will email you a page. You can
use any word processing software to transcribe it in text format and
then email the file back. As long as you have Windows 95 or 98 you will
be able to see, reduce, enlarge the picture of the page. For those of
you who paid for a copy of all the sheets, my husband has borrowed a
CD-Writer and will burn them onto a CD if that is the way you would
prefer it. Otherwise be ready for a HEAVY box of pages! :O)

For those of you recieving this email who are not in SMITH county, it is
because many of these families moved from or to these other counties
that I know of.

Keep Warm Everybody!
