BEVINS, MRS. BETTY KIRTLEY - age 70, of LaFollette, passed away Sunday,
January 9, 2000 at LaFollette Nursing Home. Member of LaFollette United
Methodist Church. Preceded in death by father, Robert L. Kirtley. Survivors:
daughters, Brenda Portwood and husband Russell, Lisa Barrell and husband Jim;
mother, Mrs. Pearl C. Kirtley; grandchildren, Joshua Maddox and Jessica
Portwood, all of Knoxville; several other relatives and friends. Funeral
services Tuesday 2 p.m. at Walters Chapel with Rev. Steve Peek, Associate
Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Concord, and Rev. Don Thomas, Pastor of
the LaFollette United Methodist Church officiating. Interment Woodlawn
Cemetery. Family will receive friends 12-2 p.m. Tuesday before services at
Walters Funeral Home. Family requests that memorials be sent to the East
Tennessee Multiple Sclerosis Society, 6324 Papermill Road, Knoxville, TN
37919. Walters Funeral Home, LaFollette, in charge of arrangements.

BRYANT, BIRDIE - age 69, of LaFollette, passed away Sunday morning, January
9th at her home. Mrs. Bryant was a member of the Middlesboro Highway Church
of God. Survivors: husband, James (Buster) Bryant of LaFollette; son, Bob
Bryant of LaPort, Texas; daughters, Peggy Bryant of Honolulu, Hawaii and
Mitzi Kelly of Jacksboro; grandsons, Gordon and Spencer Kelly, Bobby and
Jimmy Bryant; brother, R.W. Tipton of Speedwell; sisters, Elsie Short of
Harlan, Ky., and Virgie Swaggart of Montana. Funeral service Monday, January
10, 2000 at Middlesboro Highway Church of God. Rev. James Leach officiating.
Interment 12 noon Tuesday January 11 at Beeler Cemetery Speedwell. Family
will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.
Cross Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

GRAHAM, GEORGE - age 87, of Jellico, Ky. passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000
at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center, Knoxville. Preceded in death by
parents, W.D. & Laura Gothard Graham; sisters, Marie & Ruth; brothers, Bill &
Jim; grandson, George. Survived by wife, Alma Graham of Jellico; daughter,
Laura Payne of Clinton; son, Bobby Graham of Covington, Ky.; grandchildren,
Barbara Graham of Covington, Ky., Steve & Mark Payne of Clinton; great
grandchildren, Brandon, Casey, Cody, & Marcus. The family will receive
friends at the Cox & Son Chapel Monday, Jan. 10 from 6-8 p.m. with funeral
services to follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Willie Partin & Father Bob Damron
officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the
Jellico Cemetery for graveside service & interment. Cox & Son Funeral Home.

STOUT, EMILY JOSEPHINE ARCHER - age 95, left her earthly home on Sunday,
January 9, 2000 to spend eternity with God in Heaven. Her father, Morrison A.
Archer, her mother, Francis Underwood Archer, her devoted husband, Charles
Edwin Stout, and her sister, Edna Vivian Archer, are now reunited with her
forever. Her brother, Maurice Lee Archer of Georgetown, Ky., and her son,
Jerry L. Stout and his wife Josephine Young Stout of LaFollette and many
friends and former students are left to mourn her absence but also to rejoice
for her life in Heaven. In her childhood, she knew she wanted to be a school
teacher, and as an adult, she began teaching in Jellico, Tenn. and later, in
1945, moved to LaFollette, where she continued her teaching career until she
retired in 1970. Most of those years were spent teaching English at West
LaFollette Elementary School. For over 50 years, until her health declined 2
years ago due to several strokes, she was active as a Sunday School teacher,
missionary circle member, former choir member, and student of God's word at
First Baptist Church of LaFollette. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday,
January 11, 2000 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Gene
Roberts officiating. Interment to follow in Jellico Cemetery. The family will
receive friends Tuesday 12-2 p.m. before services. In lieu of flowers, the
family requested that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of LaFollette
or First Baptist Church, Jellico, Tenn. Martin Wilson Funeral Home of
LaFollette in charge of arrangements
