DAY, MACK - age 42, of LaFollette, passed away Thursday, November 11, at his
home. Preceded in death by grandparents, John & Steela Day & Harvey & Maggie
Lynch. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church & Indian River Archery
Club. Survivors: wife, Sandra Day, daughter & son-in-law, Shay & Jeff Partin;
parents, John & Della Day; brother, Johnny Day; sisters, Sharrion Bruce, all
of LaFollette. Funeral service 2 p.m. Sunday Bethlehem Baptist Church. Rev.
Bill Braden, Rev. Carl Edwards officiating. Interment: Jones Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Mack Day
Memorial Fund. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Cross
Funeral Home. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home.
MILLS, MARVIN WALKER - age 85, a long-time Oak Ridge resident since 1944 and
a retired Union Carbide manager died Thursday, November 11 at his home
following a lengthy battle with cancer. With Union Carbide, he was Manager of
Nuclear Division Payroll located at K-25. Prior to his employment with Union
Carbide, he worked for US Steel in Lynch, Ky. Mr. Mills was born October 16,
1914 in Clay County, Ky. He played basketball at Berea Academy graduating
from Berea College in 1938. He was a Kentucky "Colonel," long time member of
Oak Ridge Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He was a member of East
Tennessee Seniors Golf Association. He was also a member of the Elks Club and
1st Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge. Mr. Mills is survived by his wife of 17
years, Bobbie, and two children, Jack and Doug from his late wife, Jean. Jack
and his wife Trish live in Bangkok, Thailand where he is an executive with
Procter and Gamble, Asia. Doug and his wife Ginny live in Birmingham, Ala.
where he is President of Central Leasing of Birmingham. He is also survived
by his stepson, Joe Robinson and his wife Tina. They have two children, Josh
and Mackenzi of Knoxville. Joe is a manager with Procter & Gamble. In
addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by 3 sisters and their
husbands, Fay and Charley Hale of Oak Ridge, Glenna and George Smith of
Richmond, Va., and Jewel and Charles Eskew of Nashville; 2 brothers, Kermit
of Lexington, Ky. and Moss and his wife Jean of Roswell, N.M. Grandchildren
include Brient and Brad Mills of Knoxville, and Grace, Walker, Mark and John
Mills of Birmingham, Ala. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be Sunday, November 14 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Weatherford
Mortuary with Rev Dwyn Mounger officiating. Graveside services will be held
Monday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with the
grandchildren acting as honorary pallbearers. The family requests that
memorial donations be made in memory of Mr. Mills to Covenant Hospice, 700 S.
Illinois Ave. Suite A-202, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive
friends on Sunday, November 14 from 3-5 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak
Ridge.
STRATTON, MR. JAMES L. - age 92, of LaFollette, passed away Wednesday,
November 10, 1999 at LaFollette Nursing Home. He was born May 23, 1907. He
was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in LaFollette and
a retired carpenter and avid gardener. Mr. Stratton was preceded in death by
his parents, Lytt and Martha Brown Stratton; sisters, Bertha Martinat, Luola
Hufham, Fannie Sheffield, and Carrie Stratton; and brother, John Stratton.
Survivors: wife of 66 years, Rainey Lobertini Stratton; son, Jimmy Stratton
and wife Jean; daughter, Martha Ann Laxton and husband Gary, all of
LaFollette; grandchildren, Steve and Barry Stratton, Lee Ann Sharp, Scott
Laxton, and Amy Rutherford; eight great grandchildren; several other
relatives and friends. Funeral Mass Saturday 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Catholic Church with Father Greg Neuzil officiating. Interment Woodlawn
Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday before funeral
mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Walters Funeral Home,
LaFollette, in charge of arrangements.
