BAIRD, ASA LEE - age 75, of LaFollette, passed away Friday, November 13, 1998,
at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of Cedar Creek
Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Buss Baird; and
parents, John and Myrtle Beard Elmore. She loved to cook and have her friends
eat with her. She is survived by a son, Pryor Baird, LaFollette; daughters,
Ann Morton and Leona Ronquillo, both of LaFollette, Louise Milburn,
Taylorsville, Ky. and Linda Turner, Columbia, S.C.; sister, June Petree,
LaFollette; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four nephews; and a
host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Sunday 1:30 p.m. Martin's Chapel,
Rev. C.H. Baird and Rev. J.T. Leach officiating. Interment to follow at Bakers
Forge Cemetery. Family will receive friends Saturday 6-9 p.m. Martin Funeral
Home, LaFollette.

IVEY, ZELMA CLAIBORNE - departed this life November 13, 1998. She was a 62
year member of the First Baptist Church of LaFollette and the Fidelas Sunday
School Class, a retired doctor's nurse and a charter member of the LaFollette
Business and Professional Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her
father Don C. Claiborne; and mother, Birdie Bartley Claiborne; husband, Hugh
C. Smith; brothers, Frank, Evert, and Lawrence; sister, May Greene. Survivors:
husband, Curtis L. Ivey; brothers, Clyde, Hugh, and Ray; sister, Ollie
Heatherly; God-child, Rissa Tamer; special nephew, Ronald D. Greene, wife,
Kay, and family; Rissa Mitchell, Rhonda Wallace, David Greene; many nephews,
nieces, and friends. Funeral services 8 p.m., Sunday, November 15, at the
LaFollette First Baptist Church. Rev. David Lord officiating. Special music by
Rev. Emory Riley. Interment 11 a.m., Monday, November 16, at Fincastle
Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Sunday, prior to
the services. Nephews will be pallbearers. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home,
LaFollette.

SHEPPARD, JAMES DAVID "SHEP" - 77, Oak Ridge, died on November 14, 1998, at
the Methodist Medical Center. Retired from the US Postal Service as a mail
carrier. A Purple Heart Veteran with the US Army during World War II. Preceded
in death by wife, Virginia Lee "Ginny" Sheppard, July 24, 1998; son, James D.
Sheppard, 1946 and infant son, 1946. Survivors include daughters, Patti
Brashears and husband, David, Lenoir City, Vicki London and husband, Bobby,
Knoxville; sisters, Hazel Sheets, Florida, Savannah Casey, Johnson City; five
grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral service will be held in chapel of
Weatherford Mortuary on Sunday, November 15, 1998, 8 p.m. with Rev. Malcolm
Wansley and Rev. Chris Farmer officiating. Graveside service will be on
Monday, 11 a.m. at Monte Vista Cemetery in Johnson City with military honors.
Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans. The family will receive friends
Sunday evening (tonight) 6-8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.

WRIGHT, MARGARET GLADYS - age 68, of Clinton, formerly of Mountain View, Mo.,
passed away Saturday, November 14, 1998, at her residence. She was a member of
New Hope Baptist Church in West Plains, Mo. Preceded in death by husband,
James Wright; father, Matt Raymond Bell, Sr. She was born September 5, 1930.
Survivors: mother, Ethel Irvin Bell, Clinton; brothers, Matt Raymond Bell, Jr.
and wife, Ann, Paducah, Ky., Tommy Harold Bell and wife, Sarah, Leesburg, Ga.;
sisters, Mary Ann O'Neill, Clinton, Carol Patterson and husband, Burl,
Clinton; four nieces and one nephew. The family will receive friends from 7-8
p.m. Sunday, November 15, 1998, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. A
graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, November 16, 1998, at
McCarty-Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton with the Rev. Chris Albright
officiating. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of all
arrangements.
