LOVEDAY, MARY JANE - age 84, of Clinton, passed away Thursday, October 22,
1998, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was born in April 15,
1914, in Campbell County. She was a charter member of Pine Ridge Baptist
Church. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Preceded in death by
daughter, Meletta Elizabeth Gregory, Clara Loveday; parents, James and Martha
Ford Comer. Survivors: husband of 61 years, Rev. Leonard A. Loveday, Clinton;
daughters and sons-in-law, Lilly Mae and Duluth Jones, Clinton, Velma and
Homer Copeland, Clinton, Maggie Jo and George Bunch, Clinton, Gail and Roy
Taylor, Clinton; sisters, Bertha Comer, LaFollette, Bess Burris, Knoxville,
Ruth Wilson, LaFollette, Lena Tate, Lenoir City; special friend, Andrew
McGhee, Clinton; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great,
great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The
Loveday family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Friday, October 23, 1998,
at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m., Saturday in the chapel with the Rev. Layton Beets officiating. Interment
will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton. Holley-
Gamble Funeral Home of Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
PEBLEY, JACK HOWARD "SKEETER" - age 73, of Caryville, passed away Tuesday,
October 20, 1998, at the LaFollette Medical Center. He was a member of
Caryville First Baptist Church, charter member of Caryville Optimist Club and
member of Caryville City Council. He was a Veteran of the US Navy "Seabees"
during WWII. Preceded in death by parents, Dewey and Verlie Pebley; and
sister, Frankie Harness. Survivors: wife, Yvonne Lowe Pebley, Caryville; son
and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cathy Pebley, LaFollette; grandson, Patrick
Pebley, Caryville; granddaughter, Jenny Pebley, LaFollette; sister and
brother-in-law, Faye and Harvey Bullock, Caryville; sisters-in-law, Juanita
Lowe and Louise Asbury, both of Caryville. Funeral services 8 p.m., Friday,
October 23, 1998, at Cross Funeral Home, Rev. Charles Noss officiating.
Interment 11 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 1998, in Woodlawn Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday prior to funeral services.

WILLIAMS, ESTHER JUANITA (PEBLEY) - 60, of Rt. 5, LaFollette, passed away
Wednesday, October 21, 1998, at LaFollette Medical Center. Employed for 17
years in dietary dept., LaFollette Medical Center, and member of Hillcrest
Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, Charlie B. and Rachel Q. Pebley;
sisters, Bessie Baldwin, Edith Smith, and Dalis Miller; brother, Frank Pebley.
Survivors: husband, Fred H. Williams; daughters, Rhonda Miller and Anita
Russell, LaFollette; stepsons, Jim, Randy, and Gary Williams, Jacksboro; step-
daughter, Tammy Pittman, Jacksboro; sister, Betty Jo Bailey, LaFollette;
brothers, Maynard Pebley, Lafollette, Robert L. Pebley, Greenville, Tenn.; 14
grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m., Saturday, Roach Memorial Chapel, Rev. Paul
Heatherly officiating. Interment in Bethlehem Cemetery. Family will receive
friends 6-8 p.m., Friday at Roach Mortuary, LaFollette.

HENDERSON, NEIL FINCHER - 86, of Oak Ridge, passed away on October 21, at his
home after an extended illness. Mr. Henderson was born on October 6, 1912, in
Canton, N.C., the son of Thomas and Leona Henderson. He spent his childhood in
Canton, as well as in Lone Pine, Calif. He received a B.S. in education from
East Tennessee State University. During World War II he worked for the
Radford, Virginia Ordnance Work. Prior to the war and for several years
afterward, he taught chemistry, history and English at Elizabethton and
Hampton High Schools. In 1949, he began working for the State Department of
Vocational Rehabilitation in Johnson City, as a counselor, then as supervisor
of eight counties in upper East Tennessee until his retirement in 1974. He and
his wife lived in Elizabethton from their marriage in 1945 until they moved to
Oak Ridge in 1993 to live with their daughter and her family. Mr. Henderson's
favorite past time was reading, especially history. He also enjoyed fishing
for many years. Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen
Henderson, as well as his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John McMahon, and
their two children, Matt and Jenny, of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by his
sister, Thomasine Blackmer of Martha's Vineyard, Mass.; and his two nieces,
Brent Taylor of Martha's Vineyard and Sydney Blackmer of Venice, Calif. The
family will receive friends in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church of Oak
Ridge between 5:30-7 p.m. on Monday, October 26, with a memorial service to
follow immediately in the church sanctuary. Dr. Dwyn Mounger will officiate.
McCarty-Martin Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. In lieu of flowers,
the family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the March of
Dimes in honor of the organization's efforts against polio and other childhood

JONES, GUY WALTER, JR. - age 75, a resident of Oak Ridge, passed away
Thursday, October 22, 1998, due to complications following a stroke, at the
Memphis Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Jones was preceded in death
by his father, Guy Walter Jones, Sr.; by a brother, Jerry Jones; and by a
sister, Joyce Cox. Survivors: wife of 53 years, Gladys Carringer Jones of Oak
Ridge; sons, Barry Guy Jones of Oak Ridge, Mick Jones and wife, Denise of Oak
Ridge; mother, Frankie Mae Jones of Coalfield, Tenn.; grandchildren, Brook
Jones and Dustin Jones of Oak Ridge; brother, Joe Jones of Crossville, Tenn.;
sisters, June Hudson and husband, Jim of Coalfield, Janice Hale and husband,
Harry of Coalfield, Jeanette Babb and husband, Jim of Coalfield, Judy Slack
and husband, Charles of Coalfield, Jackie Mastin and husband, Dwight of
Coalfield; uncle, Reece Jones and wife, Lynn of McComb, Ill. He was also
survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Jones was born August 18, 1923, at
Blue Diamond, Ky. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and
is a veteran of WWII. He retired in 1985 as a chemical technician from Oak
Ridge National Laboratory. He was an avid golfer and he coached baseball teams
in Oak Ridge during the 50's, 60's and the 70's. Friends called Friday,
October 23, at Sharp Funeral Home, between the hours of 6-9 p.m. Burial and
graveside service will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m. at Estes Cemetery of
Coalfield.
WHITE, HOWARD EDWARD - age 73, of LaFollette, passed away Thursday evening,
October 22, 1998, at the LaFollette Medical Center. He was a member of Davis
Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. White was a highly decorated US Army Veteran,
having served during WWII. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, World
War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asian
Pacific Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Service Stars and one Bronze
Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and two Bronze Stars. Preceded in
death by parents, Lewis and Lou White; brothers, Manna, Verlin and William
(Wid) White; and sisters, Ruby Heatherly, Belle Rutherford and Wanda Faye
White. Survivors: wife, Ruby (Chapman) White of LaFollette; daughters,
Charlene Stooksbury and husband, Scott, Linda Smith and husband, Edward, all
of Clinton; grandchildren, Emilee and Caleb Stooksbury and Jeff Smith; great-
grandson, Dalton Smith; sister, Neoma (Omie) White, LaFollette; brothers,
Leonard White, LaFollette, Jack White, Jacksboro; godchildren, Ruth Draughn
and Wayne Longmire; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral
service 2 p.m. Sunday, October 25, at Davis Chapel Baptist Church, Rev. Paul
Heatherly officiating. Interment Sunrise Cemetery with military honors by the
Campbell County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m.
Saturday, October 24, at Cross Funeral Home. Arrangements by Cross Funeral
Home.
