BROWN, JOHN LARRY - 80, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, August 4, 1998, at
Windwood Health and Rehab. in Clinton. Retired Martin Marietta Energy Systems,
Y-12. He served with the US Army Rangers during World War II and was awarded
the American Theatre Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, the
Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and two Bronze Stars.
Member of Central Baptist Church. Preceded in death by sister, Mary Ruth Uhl.
Survived by wife, Jessie Fee Brown of Oak Ridge; son, Larry Brown and wife,
Nancy, of Oliver Springs; daughter, Beverly Simons and husband, Dr. Jon
Simons, of Knoxville; brother, Ray Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Edna
Osborne, Bartie Daughtee and Venna Myers, all of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jan Rose
Logsdon of Shelbyville, Ky.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Simons Adamson of
Greensboro, N.C., Gina Simons Brown of Franklin, Tenn., Karen Simons Wood of
Knoxville, David Brown of Nashville, and Kevin Brown of Oliver Springs; nine
great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are
Saturday, August 8, 1998, at 3 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. David
McPherson officiating. Interment in Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be
made t o Central Baptist Church, 130 Providence Rd., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
Pallbearers are Jon Simons, Chuck Brown, Bret Adamson, Tyler Adamson, David
Brown and Kevin Brown. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral
service from 1-3 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.
GILES, TOMMY "TEX" RAY - 50, of Clinton, Tenn., died Wednesday at Methodist
Medical Center. Born May 14, 1948, in Anderson County, Tenn. He served in the
U.S. Army. He was a member of Local #453, Knoxville as a boiler marker. He was
of the Methodist faith. Survivors include his wife, Sue Stooksbury Giles; son,
Jason R. and wife, April Giles of Clinton; grandchild, Allie Kate Giles of
Clinton; parents, Rodgie and Mary Jane Giles of Clinton; brothers, Ralph and
wife, Shirley Giles of Heiskell, R.L. and wife, Debria Giles of Clinton;
several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday,
August 6, 1998. Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 7, 1998,
at Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Bill Sharp and Rev. Allen Giles officiating.

HYATT, WALTER LEWIS - 79, died Wednesday, August 5, 1998, at Methodist Medical
Center of Oak Ridge, after an extended illness. Mr. Hyatt was born in
Waynesville, N.C. on December 22, 1918, and moved to Oak Ridge in April 1952.
He was a 1940 graduate of Waynesville Township High School and played on the
1939 Blue Ridge Conference Football Champion Waynesville Mountaineers. He
served in the United States Marine Corps, and was a veteran of World War II.
He also worked at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry-dock Company during the
war. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
after 32 years in April, 1984. He was a member of Local 718, Atomic Trades and
Labor Council, Pipefitters Union. Survivors include his wife of 51 years,
Dorothy Smith Hyatt; sons, Walter Keith Hyatt and Timothy Bruce Hyatt; a
grandson, Jonathan Hyatt Richardson, all of Oak Ridge. He is also survived by
his brothers and their wives, James and Jackie Hyatt of Waynesville, N.C. and
Theron and Madge Hyatt of Bryson City, N.C.; his sisters, Braxton Whitner of
Hazelwood, N.C., Annabelle and Cowan Moody of Hazelwood, N.C. and Kathleen
Sutton of Ela, N.C. and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by
Dale A. Richardson, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie of Muskogee, Okla. He was
preceded in death by his father, Walter Vernon Hyatt in 1966; his mother, Ora
Nichols Hyatt in 1961; his daughter, Lisa Hyatt Richardson in 1993; and her
husband, Dale A. Richardson of 1988. A graveside service will be held at 10
a.m. Friday, August 7, 1998, at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Family and friends
will assemble at 9:45 a.m. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday,
August 6, 1998, at McCarty-Martin Funeral Home in Oak Ridge
