Subject: [TNCAMPBE-L] COMBS FAMILY
Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1998 18:35:24 -0700
I am new to the list. I am researching my father's family in Jellico.
So far, I have only been able to find them on the 1910 census, but know
they were there before and after 1910.
The 1910 census shows the family living in District 5 (working class
neighborhood just outside of Jellico city limits),
R.L. Combs (Robert) 55, b.in Ky. (Owsley Co.), carpenter
Sarah (Duncil) 40 (she was 50, b. 1860 Laurel Co.Ky.)
Crittenden 18 son, carpenter
Charley 16 son, laborer
Grover C. 14, son laborer
Bryan 12, son, salesman/grocery
Herbert 8,son (my father, b. Dec.1901 Zedic, Ky, can't find ZEDIC)
BELLE 31, sister (sister to Robert) cook/hotel (which hotel?)
Gracey 12, grdaughter (Belle's daughter?, she's not a grdtr.)
ROBERT COMBS and SARAH DUNCIL were my grandparents, their son HERBERT,
my father. ROBERT and SARAH were m. in Laurel Co. Ky in 1879, don't know
when they came to Jellico. I know very little about the family, or
their life in Jellico. I don't know when ROBERT died, but SARAH died on
Thanksgiving Day, 1933. Tenn. does not show a death cert., but was able
to find her grave at the Jellico Cemetery. Does anyone have any info.
on this family, perhaps descendents in the area? Does anyone have info.
on the Jellico Cemetery, is there a listing available? All of the above
info. was obtained through a private researcher, so the info. was
limited. Any ideas how to search Jellico? What hotel would have
existed in Jellico in 1912? Any help would be appreciated.
