Geraldine,
I read with great interest the emails regarding the White County cemeteries.
You stated that your Historical Society had resurveyed all those in the
county. What a wonderful thing to do!!
For several years, I have been desperately trying to find info on my
ggggrandfather William Howe and wife Catherine/Katherine (maiden unknown)--he is one
of my major brick walls. Census info show him born about 1780/90 in NC and he
died 1843 in Benton Co., TN. The earliest records I have been able to find
that I know is definitely him are the 1830 census in Humphreys Co. and the 1840
census in Benton Co.
I have found some HOW / HOWE references in White Co. to a William How/Howe
who was a "Captain" in charge of collecting poll taxes in a particular district
in the 1810's. I feel this could be my William, but have not been able to
make the connection to the William Howe in Benton Co.
If your cemetery book has an index, I would greatly appreciate a lookup for
any How/Howe that might be listed.
Thank you,
Jewel Howe
