I have read all of the emails in response to my original posting and am left
with but one apparent solution.
Since we can no longer call our ceremony "Remembrance Day", as that
designation has been preempted by the National Order referring to a specific ceremony
held at the Woolson Monument honoring the GAR.
Therefore, Department of Florida Camp #4 will no longer sponsor our event,
whatever we decide to call it, and our SVR unit will take over (actually, all
of the Camp participants in our ceremony are SVR members anyway).
It seems a shame that our event, which has shown such promise by bringing
together representatives of all 5 of the Allied Orders of the GAR as well as
City and County officials, with plans to expand through the local School
Districts into a "Living History" event honoring the veterans of the Civil War that
founded our City, will no longer be allowed to call itself Remembrance Day.
We will think of another name.
