Subject: [SUVCW] Granite vs Marble

My CW ancestors are for the most part are buried in S. Illinois. The marble
(limestone) tombstones there have been significantly eroded by acid rain in
the last 100 plus years. This is even more noticeable in East Coast
cemeteries. Certainly my recommendation is granite.

I do not know what the material is that the US Veterans Administration uses,
but it seems very durable. Also note that ANY US Veteran whose grave is not
marked with a tombstone that has his name one it can request one from the VA
(_http://www.cem.va.gov/cem/hm_hm.asp_ (http://www.cem.va.gov/cem/hm_hm.asp)
). Lot's of paper and lot's of time required. My GGF Henry O'Neal was buried
at sea and his son Joe O'Neal died after Shiloh and is probably buried in an
unmarked grave at Shiloh. I have requested memorial tombstones for both of
them to be placed in the family plot at Knights Prairie.

Other than slavery, nazism, fascism and George III, war has never solved any
problems.
