Teresa, Thank you so very much for your very informative and most
knowledgeable reply (below). In your posting you wrote: "Elizabeth Stewart Holder was
indeed a half Indian woman as seen by later documents." Would you please
tell me what those documents are and where how I might obtain them. I would be
very appreciative. Regards, Bill Dunn

Hello Bill,
I have researched Hamilton Stewart for many years now. He lived next door to
my Stewarts in Surry Co NC, is listed on on the census lists from 1786-1798.
Also appearing are a James and William Stewart, same district, same
neighborhood. James bought land in 1787, Wm Stewart witnessed the deed. John HOLDER
lived next door to my Stewart's as well, now he married Agnes BLEDSOE, and they
had Bledsoe HOLDER. John HOLDER was the son of Davis Holder of Pittsylvania
Co VA. John moved to Surry Co NC with the Bledsoes abt. 1776. His father in
law John Bledsoe was there from 1771, all came from nearby, Johnston/Granville
CO NC. In 1778, my Nathaniel Stewart was a chain carrier for John Holder's
land survey, so was Moses Bledsoe. In March 1795, John Holder bought land in
Greenville Co SC, Edward Stewart (Nathaniel's brother) and Moses Bledsoe,
witnessed the deed.John Holder left SC for Franklin Co TN abt 1812.
Hamilton Stewart moved to Hawkins Co TN by 1799, later to Franklin Co TN,
near the Jackson Co AL area. I believe Hamilton's family may have
intermarried with the Holder family, and his wife was Eliz. Bledsoe.
Hamilton Stewart's family has taken the DNA test for the Stewart project. If
you could find a male from your james Stewart line, that would clear up the
whole thing for you. I wish I could help more with the Stewart-Colbert line,
the only other advice I have for you is to get in touch with Bill Holder.
Elizabeth Stewart Holder was indeed a half Indian woman as seen by later
documents.
Another person to ask is Bob Bledsoe.
Best regards,
Teresa Stuart de Rios
