Hi listers,
John Stewart, supposedly a son of Samuel and Lydia Harrison Stewart, born ca. 1728-1735, in either DE. or VA, married the widow, Susanna Fulkerson Bledsoe (dau of Frederick Fulkerson), ca. 1760. Susanna Fulkerson was the widow of Thomas BLEDSOE, who died in an Indian raid ca. 1758 on the Dan River, in either VA or NC. Susanna recieves in her widowhood a 500 acre tract of land on the Ararat River, NC/VA line. By 1760 she is married to John Stewart. Some sources say, that they lived in Halifax Co VA from 1760-1764, where their sons, David and William were born. I know a John and wife Susanna sold land on Bradley Creek to John Milam in 1764, Halifax Co VA. On Rootsweb, World Connect sites, and other references, they have John and Susanna selling their land in Rowan Co NC by 1765 (also found in deed books), and moving to Mecklenburg Co NC for a short stop before moving on to the Scott Co VA area. Their sons, David and William were already there. William was a Rev War sol!
dier, and so was his half brother, Loving BLEDSOE. Loving is also found living in the Scott Co VA area.
My question is if all the researchers of this huge line have all there documentation correct, then WHY are JOHN and his step son Loving Bledsoe listed on the 1774 Surry Co NC tax list of Houzer“s District? Listed in Houzers district for 1774 is also Joseph Stuart, a probable brother of John . Appreciate any comments.
