Dear Listers:

Let's remember to change the subject lines to reflect the
actual topic of our messages. Seems we are slipping a
bit on that. Double check them before you hit the
send key and your fellow listers will be happier. :)

When responding to prior messages -- try to remember to
only quote what is absolutely necessary in order to have
your message understood. We have all received the prior
messages, so should not need a full copy of any messages
included in your response. If you ever see what happens
with digests due to excessive quoting... well, it is ugly
and makes them more difficult to follow. <g>

A word about signature lines.......
please remember to only include those surnames actually
listed in your message, not all you may be currently
researching or have interest in. Why? Not because I
am a spoil sport. :) It is to keep the number of false
positive responses to archive queries down. When searching
the Interactive archives one hopes to find messages relative
to the search criteria they enter. It is discouraging and
time consuming to find only a surname listed in a signature
line -- especially if you have had to open a number to discover
that is all there is. Word to the wise.... when folks find that
all they get from "your" message is a name, not content -- they
will learn to skip "your" messages that come up in a search. You
could miss a cousin connection this way. That would be awful!

Yours Aye,
