STEWART OF DRUMORE.

John STEWART, a Scotch covenanter of the seventeenth century, fled from
Scotland to the county Down, in the north of Ireland. John Stewart d. 1720,
and of his family, we have record of one son only: Robert, b. 1665.

Robert Stewart, b, near Glasgow, Scotland, A.D. 1665, in the reign of Charles
ll; D. 1730.
Robert Stewart had a large family, of whom we have record only of
Samuel, b. 1698;m. Mary McClay.
Hugh, b. June 11, 1719; m. first, Hannah Dallas ; secondly, Nancy Moore.

Samuel Stewart, b. in 1698, near Glasgow, Scotland; d. 1770, in Lancaster
Co., Pa. He married in Ireland, Mary McClay, who was noted for her very dark
complexion and large person. Samuel was large and well proportioned, six feet
in height, Roman nose, bluish - grey eyes, brown hair, and ruddy complexion.
They had issue:
John, b. in Ireland settled in Adams Co., Pa.

Samuel, m. first Nancy Templeton; secondly, Agnes Calhoun.

Elijah, b. Lancaster County, Pa. ; d. 1807 in Lower Paxtang twp., Dauphin
Co., Pa. His widow removed to Ohio with her family, where his descendants now
live. They had issue: Sarah, m. James Finney, John, Samuel, Margaret, m.
William Finney:Mary, m. William Stewart, Nancy, James, and Jane.

Mary, b. Lancaster Co., Pa.; m. Robert Patterson, 1764: removed to
Westmoreland Co., Pa and had seven sons and five daughters.

Andrew, b. Lancaster Co., Pa.; settled in Hanover Twp; killed in Indian raid.

James, b. Lancaster Co., Pa. settled in Allegany Co., Pa.

Hugh, b. in Lancaster Co., Pa. settled in Kentucky; his descendants settled
in Indiana.

Hugh Stewart, b. near Glasgow, Scotland, June 11, 1719; d. Oct. 8, 1798.
buried three miles east of Harrisburg, Pa.he was married twice. first married
in 1750-1, His second marriage was to Hannah Dallas, b. 1727, Ireland; d.
1760, and buried with her husband.
They had issue, all born in Paxtang:

Jane, b. Nov. 1, 1751; d. 1824, near Monroe, Butler Co., Ohio. m. in 1772,
John Robinson.
They had issue: Sarah and Hannah (twins), Jane, William, Hugh, John -D.,
James B., Mary R.

John, b. July 2, 1753; m. a sister of John Robinson, and moved to Redstone
settlement in Fayette Co., Pa. They had issue: William, John, James, Samuel,
Hugh, Hannah, and Mary.

William, b. Oct. 21, 1757; m. Martha Walker, and removed to Allegany Co.,
Pa.; they had issue: Margaret, Hannah, Jane, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Martha,
James, William, Samuel, and John.

Hugh, b. Oct. 1, 1759; in consequence of a deformity in his feet, unfitting
him for active life, he became a teacher; settled in Redstone Co., Fayette
Co., Pa. Thence he removed to Rush Co., Indiana, m. in 1793, Mary Wilson;
they had issue: Wilson, and Hugh.

Hugh Stewart, Sr., m. secondly, in 1764, Nancy Moore, b. 1735; d. March 22,
1790. They had issue:

Robert, b. March 8, 1865; m. Sarah Finney.

Samuel, b. March 5, 1767; m. in 1796, Jane Patterson, and settled in Allegany
Co., Pa.
They had issue: James, Robert, Hugh, Nancy, Flora, John W., Margaret, Samuel,
Jane, William, Joseph, and Uriah P.

Joseph, b. July 10, 1769; m. Sarah Stewart.

James, b. Feb. 28, 1774; m. first Mary Sherer; second, Mary Maclay Stewart;
third Margaret Reed.

Mary, b. Nov. 27, 1778, in Paxtang Twp; d. in 1853, m. Charles Stewart.

Samuel Stewart, (Samuel, Robert, John), b. in County Down, Ireland; was
brought to Pennsylvania in the emigration of his fathers family, in 1735,
and, on coming of age settled as a farmer in Hanover Twp., Lancaster County,
now West Hanover , Dauphin Co., PA. about 1750. Samuel died Sept. 16, 1803.
He was a large ,man, weighing two hundred and thirty pounds, six feet tall
blue eyes and fair complexion.
He married first Nancy Templeton; they had issue:

Sarah, b. 1771 m. Joseph Stewart

Robert - Templeton, b. June 15, 1773; m. first, Mary Dunlop' second, Mrs.
Mary E. Hamilton.

James B., b. 1777; m. Ann Beatty

Charles, b. 1778; m. Mary Stewart

John Templeton, b. 1781; m. Ann Elder

Mary Maclay, b. 1784, m. James Stewart

Agnes (Nancy), b. 1786, m. John R. Beatty, of Butler Co., Ohio.
