If you are a descendant of Charles STEWART and Hannah KIRK through his Joseph Kirk Stewart/STUART (married Barbara Coffield) or his son, James Hinton Stewart/STUART (married Samantha Helen Whittington), and live in North Carolina - I need to hear from you.

The cemetery, accessible only through Harnett County, is in desperate need of cleaning up - briars and bramble are thick, snake skins hang from trees, and bottles litter the area. There is no wall, fence or gate. It is located on private farm land. A housing project near by has access to the cemetery and may use it for unsavory purposes. I do not wish to reveal the exact location because it IS on private land and should not be invaded by visitors.

Gravestones positively identified so far are (There are some graves I just couldn’t get to).:
James Hinton Stuart: 20 Jan 1846 - 5 Jan 1910, son of Joseph Kirk Stewart/STUART who is suppose to be here too
his wife, Samantha Helen Whittington: 17 Nov 1845 - 27 Jun 1915

Erastus Lenard Stuart: 2 Nov 1871 - 24 Sep 1929, son of James Hinton Stewart/STUART
his wife, Ardelia Edith Jones, 16 Oct 1867 - 1942

Cuirba/Kirby Piscud Stuart: 12 Jan 1875 - 2 Mar 1898, son of James Hinton Stewart/STUART
Paul Eugene Stuart: 15 Dec 1894 - 16 Oct 1934, son of Erastus Lenard Stewart/STUART

Hazel Pearl Stuart Maddox, of Virginia, daughter of Paul Eugene Stuart, worked to clean up this cemetery during the 70’s but it is very “fallen.” I do have pictures of the cemetery if you wish to see its condition. We, urgently need help to preserve this cemetery.

Hoping to hear from you,
Patricia Stuart Sistare
