I have another NC brick wall. I am trying to find the father of Alexander
Stuart, born in North Carolina in 1826. Could he be tied in at all with the
family of James Stewart? Alexander Stuart married Mary Jane Livengood in
Orange County Indiana in 1849, and according to our family tradition, fought
in the Civil War on the side of the South. The fact that he fought in the
Civil War on the side of the South probably eliminates him from being one of
the Quaker Stuarts that moved from Pennsylania to North Carollina to
Indiana. Again, according to family oral history, he is descended from the
Royal House with the link being somewhere in the mid 1700's. Any help would
be appreciated.

in Wilkes Co., NC, daughter of JOHN BROWN and JANE MCDOWELL. She was born
December 04, 1776 in Wilkes County, N.C. and died February 08, 1835 in
Caldwell Co, NC.

A James Stewart owned 100 Acres entered Jan. 28, 1780 on boths sides of
Fishdam Creek and 50 acres entered 1780 both sides of Fishdam creek below
falls. Fishdam Creek is in Wilkes Co.

1782 Land valuations has a James Stewart as Occupant of Land owned by
William
Brown (250 Acres of land on the Yadkin river joing A Baird; 1 cabin 25 by
20
huw'd logs, 2 stables at 1 dollar each , one old barn)

1783 Land valuations has a James Stewart as occupant of land owned by James
Brown, Jr (300 acres of land on Bakers branch joining John Brown, Sr) and by
William Brown (250 Acres of land on the Yadkin river joing A Baird; 1 cabin

Wilkes Co, NC October 14, 1791 James II is Witness to sale of Slave to John
Brown from James Barrham of Guilford Co, NC. His signature appears regularly
on documents in the John and Hamilton Brown Papers at the Univ. of NC.


15 March 1841 Thomas Lenoir writes to son William about attending the
organization of Caldwell Co Court. Capt. James Stewart was elected Ranger
