Kathy, I have microfilm copies of some pages of the SCM that I did for my
family. I don't know if this one is yours, but here's something. I do not
know which issue it came from, but it was on page 191.

"JOHN STEWART FROM LANCASTER COUNTY, PA
John Stewart of Colerain township, Lancaster county, Pa., made a
contract Oct. 17, 1787, with William Rea of Guildord county, N.C. to buy a
tract of 500 acres lying in the forks of Stone's river in Davidson
(Rutherford) county, Tenn. The witnesses to the contract were Thomas Stuart,
Alexander Grant and Robert Stuart. He may never have become a resident of
Tennessee. The records from Pennsylvania show that a John Stewart received a
patent June 29, 1787, for 273 acres of land lying partly in Colerain township
and partly in Drumore township. He had taken out a warrant for this land some
30 years before --- Mar. 30, 1758 --- which shows he was not a young man.
Thomas Stuart, who may have been his son, appeared at the April, 1796,
session of the Davidson county court and proved the contract above mentioned.
Rutherford county was set off in 1803."

Hope this helps,
Ruth Cherecwich
