No, you're quite right, this family isn't in the SCM. If you can't find Ellen Jane
Wilson in the Index of Spouses, chances are Robert isn't there either.
Have you tried at all subscribing to one of Rootsweb's mailing lists? The
NYC-Roots list is very active. Since Ellen Jane came from Staten Island, and they
lived later in Hoboken, it's quite possible that Robert was working in NYC. You
have censuses, and city directories that might help pin him down. I don't know
what's available for NJ, but certainly there are censuses for Hoboken, and in the
NYC city directories I know of at least two instances of people whose home is given
as Hoboken -- not Stewarts, of course, but ancestors all the same!
