The Red Comyn was John Comyn II, a competitor of Robert the
Bruce for the throne of Scotland and a supporter of Edward I
of England. He was killed by Bruce in 1306.

There's a "Black Stewart" tartan, but I'm not aware of a
branch of the family designated such. Maybe someone else on
the list knows about this?

It's a long shot, but there was a Philadelphia family, the
Black-Stewarts, who were active in Scottish emigrant affairs
in the first half of this century. Could that be your
connection?
