Hello there....
I'm new to the Stewart list and am hoping someone out there might be able to
help me. I'm looking for information on a Benjamin Stewart who was born in
Jessamine Co. KY in 1795. I believe he married an Elizabeth and moved his
family to Missouri in the early 1800's. While there he had a son named
Charles (whom I'm descended from). Other siblings include Alfred and Albert
who were twins and Holman. There may be others but I don't know. Anyway,
in 1846 the family headed out to Oregon along the Oregon Trail. While on
the trail they met up with the Applegates who convinced their party to take
an alternate route through southern Oregon. This trail cutoff the
California trail and became known as the Scott-Applegate Trail. Albert
helped to build the trail ahead of the settlers as they made their way
through. Once in Oregon the Stewarts settled in Washington Co, near
Hillsboro. The main info I'm trying to locate is anything about Benjamin's
father, Thomas Stewart. If any of things rings a bell please let me know.
Any info sent my way is greatly appreciated. Thanks.....
