Good grief! The response by Mr. Taylor to the warning posted by Mr. Stuart
alarms me more than the original warning!
Can't we give each other the benefit of the doubt unless we have solid
reasons not to do so? To infer that Mr. Stuart (a stranger to me) may have
had ulterior motives in posting the warning is unwarranted and uncivil.
Can't we assume that at times other people will make honest mistakes, like
we all do? I encourage Mr. Taylor to be more merciful.
Urban myths are the products of our fears, many times legitimate. We are
all frightened at the thought of contracting the HIV virus through any
means. It is natural that that anxiety will surface in urban myths. It
does not neccesarily follow that everyone who fears AIDS despises
homosexuals. As long as there are a few instances of criminal individuals
attempting to infect others with the virus (and a few documented cases DO
exist) we need to be understanding of people's fears rather than being hostile.
And by the way, I don't think it is appropriate for any of us to give out a
list of penance requirements needed to earn "forgiveness".
