Family history is that the Nancy Jane Stuart who married my great great
grandfather Francis Marion Gomillion in Alabama in mid 1800s is of the Mary
Queen of Scots Stuarts. Yes, I am aware of the fact that probably every
Stewart/Stuart way back when was related. But I somewhere have information
tracing descendants of one of her close family members as far as Georgia.
With that in mind...
Background: The Gomillion family first went to Scotland, then
prior to 1790 to Charleston, then to Oglethorpe Co Ga. They kept stores and
taverns, normally the first in any community. My grandfather, Thad
Gomillion of Brooks, Ala. (Thad, Ala till the Republicans came in!!) was
grandson of Nancy Jane Stuart. She married Francis Marion Gomillion (son of
Bartlett Gomillion). Other than that, the only fact I know of her from
granddaddy is
"always spell her name with a `u' -- because she is of the Mary Queen of
Scots family. We know Mary Queen of Scots' Stewart became Stuart when she
returned to her mother's native France as bride of the future king. Some of
her Stuart relatives stayed in France -- others had descendants in Scotland.
My question is: Where did the Gomillions first meet with the Stuart
family...was it in France?...in Scotland?...in S.C. or Ga..or Alabama?
