Hi distant cousins,
I'm a relatively new subscriber -- 'bout a week -- and am wondering a bit about
the Stewarts.
*Is there a difference between the names STEWART & STUART? (other than the
French influence)
*What is the significance of the term "Highland" Stewart and does that mean that
there are also "Lowland" Stewarts and if so, are they entirely different
unrelated clans/families?
*I understand how the "Royal Stewarts" got the name Stewart but assuming that
there are other Stewarts who are not related, how (in general) did they get the
name Stewart?
*Is this mailing list only interested in American Stewarts or does it inquire
into its Scotish heritage?
*If this mailing list is primarily local, is there another interactive source of
information about the ancient Scotish clan? The reason I ask this last question
is that my GGGrandmother is the only Stuart in my line and she was born in
Scotland. Obviously, I am not closely related to or directly descended from any
Stuarts in this country. Her children were Whites.
If I knew the answers to the above questions, it would make my quest much, much
easier!
Thankyou in advance,
AlG
