According to the Stewart Clan Magazine, James was the son of Henry Stewart
of Taliaferro Co. GA. James was b. 25 Dec 1795 and marr. Margaret --. His

Henry Stewart was b. 29 Jan 1759, and is the son of Matthew Stewart of
Mecklenburg Co., NC, who has so many descendants I once tried to make a
chart of them and gave up. They are very well documented in the SCM thanks
to Mrs Elizabeth Stewart Bundy, who was a descendant. Matthew's children:

a note that Alexander Hamilton Stewart married Elizabeth Martin, which isn't
in the SCM
although his son William E. Stewart of Savannah is mentioned.
