I found out that the family I had for James Bates Stewart (1795-1827) of
Warren Co, Ga, wasn't the right one. Now I find that his father was James
Stewart, who was born in Scotland, and married there in 1779 or 1780 to
Miss Elizabeth Bates. They came to NC and their three children-James,
Henry, and Elizabeth were born there. Elizabeth Bates moved to Ga after
her husbands death, and remarried. James and Henry moved to Savannah and
Elizabeth moved to stay with cousins James Fort and family in Wayne Co, Ga
Henry had two sons, James and Preston, and Elizabeth married John Gillett
in Wayne Co, Ga
My James married Courtney Keightley, and had four children: Elias Fort,
Catherine, Newton, and Franklin
